ON THE APPROACH
The Urban Knights return to the Bay Area after a tough trip to Riverside where they fell to California Baptist, but still feel the momentum from their strong stretch only a couple weeks ago at home. The Knights won games against Dominican and Holy Names, but have dropped two in a row against Notre Dame de Namur and CBU.
KEEPING THE STREAK
With their win over Dominican in the first matchup between these two teams, the Urban Knights ran their unbeaten streak against the Penguins to four straight games beginning last year. That streak includes three wins and one tie for the Knights, who won the last matchup on the corner-kick goal from
Beth Barker with 13 seconds left in the game. Since then, the Penguins have gone 2-1-1, including wins over NDNU and Fresno Pacific. In the win over the Sunbirds, Lauren Gollnick had a hat trick, picking up two first-half goals and the extra insurance in the second half.
FOURS ALL AROUND FOR FPU
The Sunbirds have been remarkably consistent across the board, with four wins, four losses, and four ties in their inaugural season in the Pacific West Conference. Fresno Pacific went six straight matches without a loss before Dominican defeated them in San Rafael, and are led by four players with four points a piece that trail points leader Jae Slocum (who has five). Slocum, Demi Hamilton, Caressa Archie, and Aeriel Sanders all have two goals to pace the Sunbirds. This will be the first ever matchup between these two teams.
COMING UP SOON
The Urban Knights will host Notre Dame de Namur on October 26 for their final home game of the seaso before heading to Hawai'i to close out the year on the road. They'll be celebrating their two seniors,
Jasmine Sharpe and
Tanner McCandlish, in their final games in San Francisco.
