Phoenix, AZ -- The Academy of Art University women's soccer team finished off their year with a three-game sweep in Hawai'i, and for their efforts, two of the key components in those wins were recognized by the conference. Junior midfielder
Hannah Emmett was named the PacWest Player of the Week and sophomore goalkeeper
Rachael Rempe was named the PacWest Goalkeeper of the Week for matches contested Oct. 29-Nov. 4. The honors were announced Monday by the PacWest Office in Phoenix.
Rempe has been stellar all year for the Urban Knights, becoming their all-time leader in wins, shutouts, and goals against average in her first season on the pitch. The Calgary, Canada native went 3-0 last week, only allowing one goal in the three games and notching two shutouts, one against Hawai'i Pacific and the other against Chaminade. She tallied 16 saves and had a .941 save percentage against the island schools.
Rempe has played every minute between the posts for Academy of Art this year, totaling over 1600 minutes in goal. Her seven wins are the most ever in a career by an Urban Knight, while she also had 109 saves and five shutouts. Earlier this year she also set a program record with 19 saves against Notre Dame de Namur, and put together back-to-back shutouts on two separate occasions this year.
Hannah Emmett played a key part on the opposite end of the pitch for the Urban Knights, totaling five points on two goals and one assist during a 3-0-0 week in Hawai'i. She scored the game-winning goal in the 51st minute of a 1-0 win at Hawai'i Pacific on Nov. 1. She also tallied the game's first goal in the 81st minute of a 2-1 overtime win at Hawai'i Hilo on Nov. 3. Later in the contest she set up Réa Laudat for the game-winner less than five minutes into the first overtime period.
Emmett made the move from forward to midfield this year, but did not see any drop off in her scoring from last season, tallying 14 points here in 2012 to go with her 12 points from 2011. Emmett had six goals and two assists this year, giving her team records in career goals (16) and points (38).
This is the first ever Player of the Week selection for both Urban Knights. For Rempe, it was her second selection to the Fantastic 15 this year, the first being after the week of Sep. 23. This was Emmett's second selection of the season as well, having been selected after the week of Sep. 2, and the fifth of her career.
