PacWest Release
Phoenix, AZ -- In a fitting end to a historical season for Academy of Art University women's basketball, sophomore forward
Alisa Griggs captured her 10th Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll of the year to tie the program's record set by
Jessica Nolan a season ago. Griggs posted 16 points and had one of the highest field goal percentages during the week in which ART U defeated Notre Dame de Namur 86-53 to finish its 2011-12 campaign. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday, Mar. 5 for games played Feb. 27 - Mar. 4.
Fan knew it would be a special game when Griggs not only attempted, but made the first three-point shot attempt of her career to start the afternoon. The Milwaukie, OR native was her usual efficient self scoring the basketball in the first half (5-for-6 FG) and shared the game-high of 11 points with junior guard
Nicol Biesek at the break. Griggs went to work rebounding the ball and getting her teammates involved in the second half and by the end of the contest, Griggs came through with 16 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
The 7-of-11 shooting from the field tied Griggs for third in the PacWest for the week. The 63.6 percent clip on Saturday helped the sophomore finish ninth overall in the conference for the season.
Including the Player of the Week honor she received in January, Griggs has now amassed 10 PacWest Weekly Top 10 awards in 2011-12, tying Nolan's collection in 2010-11. This marks Griggs' 11th career selection.
