PacWest Release #10
Phoenix, AZ -- Senior
Katy Wade returned from Hawaii in a big way this past Friday with an impressive double-double versus UH Hilo, earning her a Pacific West Conference Weekly Fantastic 15 honor in the process. The Portland, OR native set a new career-high with 16 rebounds and added 15 points in the breakout performance.
The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ on Monday, Jan. 21 for games played Jan. 14-20.
After an active first half, Wade had nine points and 10 rebounds in the second period alone including a layup that sparked Academy of Art University's 9-0 run in the final minutes. The rebound total of 16 (eight offensive, eight defensive) was the fourth-highest mark in program history. In addition to the rebounding and scoring, she picked up two steals, two blocks, and one assist in 27 minutes on the floor.
“Katy took some steps [against UH Hilo],” head coach LaNay Larson said. “I thought she was more aggressive. I still think she can finish better around the basket, but that was a very physical game and because of her length, she doesn't tend to get a lot of calls so we just need to play through that just establish good position. She's so versatile and did a great job on the boards tonight.”
Currently fourth in the PacWest in rebounding, Wade offers 9.8 rebounds per game and can be found among the Top 50 rebounders in NCAA Division II. She also ranks third in the conference in blocked shots per game (2.5), a statistic for which she has set a new standard at Academy of Art. A Top 15 shot blocker in the country, Wade has amassed 42 blocks thus far in 2012-13 to drastically rewrite the program's record books. The previous high had been
Nicol Biesek's 25 last year and now, with at least 11 games still to play, Wade is on her way to more than doubling that mark.
This is Wade's third career appearance on the PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15.
