Match #13
ART U Urban Knights (2-9-1, 1-5-1 PacWest) vs. Holy Names (3-8, 0-6 PacWest)
Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM
Oakland, CA – Merritt College
ON THE APPROACH
The Academy of Art University women's soccer team had two games get away from them in the second half last week, falling to Point Loma and Dixie State University on late second-half goals. This week they'll face off against Holy Names, against whom they got their last win, a 1-0 victory in San Francisco back on October 4.
KNIGHTS HUNTING FOR HAWKS IN REMATCH
The Urban Knights will look to sweep the season series against the Hawk after defeating them once already this year when Lou Fillingham spun one off the crossbar and in. Holy Names is still looking for their first conference victory, and have lost four straight heading into the weekend. The Hawks had a two-game winning streak before their slide, defeating UC Merced and Mills College, but have faltered in conference play.
AROUND THE WORLD WITH ART U SOCCER
The ART U women's soccer roster is littered with international talent, as they hold one of the higher percentages of foreign-born players at the Academy of Art. With the universality of soccer, this isn't that surprising, with the Knights most heavily represented by three players from England (
Louise Fillingham, Rea Laudat,
Esme Garner-Purkis). They also have two players from Canada (
Rachael Rempe,
Hannah Emmett), two from Germany (
Jasmin Leonhardt,
Jule Klandt), and one each from Sweden (
Hanna Aronzon) and Colombia (
Mariandrea Otero Molano).
HEADED YOUR WAY
After the game this Saturday, the Knights will head to Hawaii to play all four island schools before returning to the mainland for their season finale against Fresno Pacific on November 9 at Kezar Stadium.
