ON THE APPROACH
The Academy of Art women's soccer team dropped their second straight overtime match falling 1-0 to Holy Names last week. It was their fourth overtime game of the year after only two matches going into extra time in 2012. They'll head into Hawaii looking to get back on track as their last victory came against that same Holy Names team on another 1-0 score, last time in favor of the Urban Knights.
SILVERSWORDS STUCK IN NEUTRAL
Chaminade is still winless on the year, losing all nine conference games and 13 in a row in 2013. The Silverswords are giving up three goals a game while their leading scorer, Twyla Hamasaki, has five points on two goals and an assist. Lauren Ishii has made 112 saves this year, facing 146 shots in goal, and has played all 1171 minutes between the posts.
BYU-HAWAII HEATING UP
After going 0-3-1 to start the year, the Seasiders have won four in a row and will host the Knights on Monday. They have three palyers tied with five points each, as McKenzie Evans, Sarah Bodily, and Kim Micheletti each have two goals and one assist on the 2013 season. Megan McCain is allowing just over one goal per game, as the BYU defense has only allowed 58 shots on the year.
KNIGHTS HOPING FOR ISLAND REWIND
Academy of Art ended the year on a high note last season by pulling off a program first: sweeping in Hawaii. They took down Chaminade 2-0, scored a late goal to defeat Hawaii Pacific 1-0, and then capped it of with a thrilling 2-1 overtime win against the Vulcans to finish off 2012 with a win. They'll look to emulate that trip here in 2013 but will have BYU-Hawaii added to their slate.
HILO RISING IN THE RANKS
After this week's regional rankings were released, UH Hilo found themselves in uncharted territor, placing in the West Region rankings for the first time in their history. The Vulcans are ranked fifth in the West, with the top six teams earning berths in the NCAA Division II National Championship tournament. Kristine Pasek has three goals to lead the team, while Lindsey Poulson has a pair of goals and a pair of assists, as each totals up to six points. Hilo also boasts eight different players with game-winning goals, while Jenna Hufford is allowing 1.04 goals per game.
SEA WARRIORS FALLING OFF
After starting of the year hot, Hawaii Pacific has played sub-.500 soccer since then, going 3-6-1 in their past 10 games. HPU battled to a 0-0 tie with UH Hilo on October 23 to pick up a point. They're led by a trio of Sea Warriors with two goals, as Lexi Cameau, Ashlyn Ubongen, and Andrea Aguirre all have a pair. Anu Kahele-Manners was in goal for all 110 minutes of that game, and has started 10 games this year, only allowing 11 goals and making 47 saves.
