San Rafael, CA -- For the second time in less than a week, the Academy of Art University women's soccer team played Dominican University, and for the second time, it was the Penguins who emerged victorious after a quick start to hand ART U a 3-0 loss. Lauren Gollnick had a goal and an assist as the Knights got off eight shots but were unable to capitalize and find the back of the net.
Kaila Wakida, who scored the game-winner last week, started off the game by scoring in the first minute of the match, taking a feed from Jill Thomas and heading it past
Rachael Rempe to give the Penguins an early 1-0 lead. They would add another goal before the half as Gollnick passed it from the left side to an open Mckenna Kimball in the 37th minute to make it a 2-0 advantage going into the locker room.
The Urban Knights turned it on in the second half, matching the Penguins shot for shot in the second half with seven shots apiece. ART U got three shots on goal and three corner kicks in the second half, but they weren't able to get it past Megan Herring, who ended the match with three saves. Gollnick would put Dominican up one more goal with an unassisted shot in the 69th minute to get to the final score, and although the Knights got three shots in the last five minutes, they were held off the scoreboard.
The Urban Knights will be back in action on Saturday against Point Loma Nazarene University, and again on Monday against Dixie State before hitting the road until the last week of October.
