NCAA Division II Regional Rankings
The morning after setting a new program wins record with a
victory over Dominican, Academy of Art University Women's Basketball received more historic news in Wednesday's announcement of the NCAA Division II Regional rankings. The Urban Knights have earned a 9th place ranking in the West Region, marking the first time any ART U athletics team has been issued such an honor by the NCAA.
“I am very proud of how far this team and program has come in this second year," head coach
LaNay Larson said. "To be in the running for a berth to the NCAA Tournament in our first season as full-fledged NCAA DII members is an indicator of how hard they have worked to make a dream into a reality. While this is a great honor, we have a lot of season left and something to prove to continue to make ourselves legitimate postseason contenders.”
Academy of Art University currently boasts a 17-8 overall record and, with a 10-5 conference record, has clinched a spot in the Pacific West Conference Tournament (Mar. 7-9) which will determine the winner of an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Urban Knights were one of three PacWest schools in the West Region's Top 10 with Grand Canyon ahead at #6 and Hawaii Pacific behind at #10.
ART U has three contests left to play on its 2012-13 regular season schedule, beginning with its final home game against Notre Dame de Namur this Saturday.
