2012-13 All-Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Team
Phoenix, AZ -- In a regular season where Academy of Art University Women's Basketball practically rewrote the program record books and now has a shot to go after its first NCAA National Championship, a trio of seniors were rewarded with Pacific West Conference post-season honors.
Jordan Rogers captured a spot on the All-PacWest Second Team,
Ariel Dale was a member of the All-PacWest Third Team, and
Katy Wade picked up an All-PacWest Team Honorable Mention.
"I'm very proud of the year that Ariel, Jordan and Katy had," head coach
LaNay Larson said. "The contributions they made to this team and program will forever be remembered."
This year, the PacWest coaches or designated representatives from each school selected 28 student-athletes for All-Conference accolades. The squad consisted of a First Team, Second Team, Third Team, and honorable mention as well as Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Freshman of the Year.
Rogers was the regular season scoring leader for an extremely balanced ART U team. Her 13.4 points per game ranked 12th in the PacWest while her 1.9 steals per game were 15th. She offered the 5th highest free throw percentage (.764) in the conference and 5.9 rebounds per game, regularly exhibiting a toughness not necessarily seen at the guard position. Through the post-season, Rogers has also become the program's new single-season scoring leader.
It was a senior year to remember for Rogers who earned six PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15 honors and was once the
PacWest Player of the Week. The Sparks, NV native scored 20 or more points in five games, highlighted by her career-high 26 points in the Knights' victory
at Hawaii Pacific. She would drain six 3-pointers in that one. When Academy of Art
knocked off #17 Pittsburgh State earlier this season, Rogers simply led by example. The senior scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked four shots, and notched four steals in what would go down as one of the most memorable upsets in program history.
One of the most versatile athletes on the team, Dale wrapped up the regular season as the Urban Knights' steals leader and among the top in scoring, assists, and rebounding. She ranked 21st in all of NCAA Division II in steals per game (3.1) in addition to averaging 12.4 points (14th in PWC), 6.9 rebounds (15th in PWC), and 3.4 assists (8th in PWC) per game. For her career, Dale is currently the only ART U player to rank in the program's Top 6 in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks, and steals.
Dale served as a major contributor to an Academy of Art team that led the NCAA DII in steals and turnover margin during the 2012-13 year. She was a seven-time PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15 honoree and, like Rogers, once the
PacWest Player of the Week. The Los Angeles, CA native had many standout performances including her near-triple-double (15 points, eight rebounds, seven steals)
versus Nebraska-Kearney in the Knights' second home game of the year. She also heated up during ART U's run to end the regular season, scoring a career-high 21 points with 12 rebounds
at Holy Names on Feb. 26 and going for 20 points and 14 rebounds
at Dominican later that week.
Wade brought a defensive game unlike any before her at Academy of Art University. Setting numerous program blocked shots (69) and rebounding (269) records, the senior averaged 7.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game. Wade ranked 3rd in the PacWest in both rebounds and blocks, but was also 9th in the entire country in rejections. She earned the distinction of having blocked at least one shot in her 28 games played during the regular season.
With an amazing career all wrapped up into just one year with the program, Wade posted a total of 16 double digit rebounding efforts, was a four-time selection to the PacWest Weekly Fantastic 15, and was the only Urban Knight to start all 28 regular season games. She offered one of her best games of the season early on when she scored 18 points, collected 15 rebounds, picked up five steals, and set the new ART U single-game blocked shots record with six rejections
against Central Washington.
This is the second All-PacWest Team honor for both Rogers and Dale after each captured
All-PacWest Second Team in their first year with the program (2011-12). It is Wade's first career All-PacWest award. Fans can watch and listen to a replay of the announcement on
