Thomas Once Again High Point Athlete of Meet

2013 U.S. Track & Field and Coaches Association High Point Athletes of the Meet

Vashti Thomas of the now two-time National Champion Academy of Art University women's track & field team has been named the High Point Athlete of the Meet for her impressive performances at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday.

The High Point Athlete of the Meet award is given to one student-athlete of each gender who compiles the highest point total at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Thomas, a senior from San Jose, CA who also won High Point honors for the indoor championships, scored 36¼ points in four individual events and two relays to lead Academy of Art to its first DII outdoor team championship with 60 team points and a sweep of the 2013 track & field titles. She claimed individual titles in the 100 hurdles in 12.70 (+1.8m/s), a new DII record and tied for the No. 10 mark in collegiate history; and the long jump with a mark of 21-2¼ (6.47m). She finished runner-up at 200 meters in 22.75 (-0.7m/s), tied for the second-fastest time in Division history; and third in the triple jump at 42-3½ (12.89m). She also ran legs of the runner-up 4×100 relay and the eighth-place 4×400 relay.
