San Francisco, CA — CCSF
LIVE VIDEO/STATSSan Francisco, CA — The Academy of Art University women's soccer team will look to continue its recent stretch of solid play when it hosts Dominican (Calif.) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in a PacWest Conference matchup at CCSF that will close out the Urban Knights' longest homestand of the season.
Â
ART U (1-6-1, 1-1-0 PacWest) has gone 1-2-1 in its last four matches while scoring six goals. The two losses during that stretch were to then-No. 22 ranked Sonoma State on the road and a one-goal loss to Hawaii-Hilo. The Urban Knights have scored goals in back-to-back matches for the first time this season and have held leads in three of their last four contests.
Â
This is in contrast to the first four matches of the 2014 campaign, in which they went 0-4 and were outscored 12-1. The Knights' 2-1 victory over Hawaii Pacific (Sept. 25) and 3-3 non-conference draw versus Cal State East Bay (Sept. 17) both occurred at home.
Â
ABOUT DOMINICAN (CALIF.)The Penguins (0-8, 0-2 PacWest) are winless in 2014, including an 0-2 mark on the road. Seven of Dominican's eight defeats have been by two goals or more. The Penguins have lost to comparable ART U opponents Cal State San Bernardino and Sonoma State.
Â
Megan Hanson leads Dominican's scoring attack with two goals this season. Peyton Jones is second on the team with three points (1 goal, 1 assist), while two others have also scored in 2014 for the Penguins. Three different goalkeepers have seen at least 90 minutes in goal for Dominican. Ashley Lentz has turned in the most time with 303 minutes, 54 seconds minding the net, but has also allowed 12 goals on the year. Sylvanna Islas leads the team with a 1.92 goals against average in 234:12.
Â
1-2 PUNCHThe forward duo of senior
Louise Fillingham and junior Réa Laudat has been the center of the Urban Knights' offensive attack this season. Each player has seven points so far with three goals and an assist each. Fillingham scored both of ART U's goals in the 2-1 win over Hawaii Pacific and Laudat combined with Fillingham to score the team's three goals in the Sept. 17th 3-3 draw versus Cal State East Bay.
Â
JOINING IN ON THE FUNBrooke Stewart finally broke through Fillingham and Laudat's hold on the team's offense Saturday by scoring in the first half versus Hawaii-Hilo for her first goal of the season. Until that point all of ART U's goals had been scored by either Fillingham or Laudat. Stewart may prove to be a third offensive attacker opponents have to worry about, as she's already found the net in just five shots this season – fifth-most on the team.
