San Francisco, CA — Junior midfielder Natalie Gabriel scored her first career goal as an Urban Knight Saturday, but Dominican (Calif.) University's McKenna Kimball scored a hat trick to help lead the Penguins to a 4-1 PacWest victory over Academy of Art University at CCSF.
 
With ART U (1-7-1, 1-2 PacWest) trailing 1-0 in the 29th minute, Gabriel settled a cross from Kendall Halliburton in the box, turned and fired from 15 yards out. Halliburton dribbled the ball deep into the right corner before sending it into the box, finding Gabriel for the equalizer.
 
Kimball, however, scored her first three goals of the season – all in the second half – to lift the Penguins (1-8, 1-2 PacWest) to their first victory in 2014. Kimball's first two goals came 33 seconds apart in the 55th minute of the second half to snap a 1-1 tie. Both scores came on nearly identical plays, as Kimball took through passes – first from Stephanie Owens and then from Ivy Torres – and ran right past the Urban Knights' back line for a 1-on-1 matchup against ART U goalkeeper Rachael Rempe, winning each time.
 
Kimball added her third goal in the 72nd minute, putting a foot on a ball that was loose in the box after Jessica Ramirez had fired a shot in. Kimball was actually lying on the ground when she scored the goal, falling down in the scramble before scooting the ball past Rempe.
 
Owens put the Penguins on the board first in the 11th minute when she scored her first goal of the season by taking advantage of a turnover by the Academy of Art defense, dribbling the ball into the box and beating Rempe to the right.
 
The Urban Knights have scored goals in three straight matches and four of their last five after being shutout three times in their first four matches. The Knights now head to Fresno for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Thursday against PacWest opponent Fresno Pacific.
