2014 Women's Soccer All-PacWest Teams and AwardsÂ
IRVINE, Calif. — The 2014 Women's Soccer All-Pacific West Conference teams and awards were announced by the conference office Wednesday, and Academy of Art University had two players represented. Junior forward Réa Laudat was named to the All-PacWest Third Team and senior midfielder
Louise Fillingham received Honorable Mention honors.
Â
Laudat ended her 2014 season with top-five ART U single-season performances in points (13, 4th), goals (6, t-3rd) and goals per game (0.33, t-3rd). Her career totals in game-winning goals (4, t-1st), points (26, 2nd), goals (11, 2nd), goals per game (0.23, t-3rd) and assists (4, t-5th) are all among the top-five career records for the Urban Knights.
Â
Fillingham was second on the team in points and goals, pairing with Laudat to form the Urban Knights' dynamic scoring duo. She and Laudat connected together twice on Sept. 17 to help lead ART U to a 3-3 draw versus Cal State East Bay. It was FIllingham's free kick with time winding down that led to Laudat's game-winning corner kick goal to beat BYU-Hawaii on Oct. 23.
Â
Fillingham concluded her career with top-five marks in points (24, 3rd), goals (10, 3rd) and games started (66, 2nd).
Â
"I'm happy or both of them, I think it's well-deserved," said ART U head coach
Katie Awerkamp, who completed her first season at the helm of the program in 2014. "They both had some special moments in a few games this season. You always want your kids who perform the brightest to receive the honors, especially as we try to move this program forward."
Â
PacWest champion Point Loma earned four individual awards and seven All-PacWest selections. California Baptist won the other two awards and had 11 players on the All-PacWest team. The teams and awards were selected by a vote of the league's coaches.
Â
CBU senior Lindsay Vesling was named PacWest Player of the Year, making her the third-consecutive Lancer to win the award. Fellow Lancer sophomore Justene Kesterson was named PacWest Newcomer of the Year.
Â
Point Loma claimed the other four individual awards to go along with its first-ever PacWest championship title. Sophomore Ariel Oriarte was named PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year, senior Claire Mathews was named PacWest Defender of the Year and freshman Sami Swanson was named Pacwest Freshman of the Year. All of those team accolades helped Tim Hall become the PacWest Coach of the Year. All four awards were the first for Point Loma in PacWest women's soccer.
Â
California Baptist led all schools with 11 All-PacWest members, including Kesterson, Vesling and sophomore Audrianna DeGraw. Point Loma had seven selections, including Mathews, Oriarte and sophomore Dottie Rhoten on the first team. Dixie State had six selections, followed closely by Fresno Pacific with five and Azusa Pacific and Hawai'i Pacific with four each.
