LEADING OFF
The Urban Knights swept their way through the opening series against American Sports University, picking up three wins in two days over the Eagles, who were in their first year of their baseball program. Nate Gercken picked up the win in the second game and was also named PacWest Pitcher of the Week after throwing six innings of shutout ball, tying and Urban Knights record with nine strikeouts.

COACH GUINN HAD THIS TO SAY...
"I know where they [American Sports] were coming from. We were there only a few years ago, so I empathize with their situation. You have talent on your team but there's just not enough depth. They had some guys who were pretty good, and it wouldn't surprise me if they improve a lot over the next couple years. But we also picked up a lot of momentum heading into the series against Cal State Dominguez Hills."

TOROS GET A TASTE OF PACWEST
The Toros also have a series under their belt, as they hosted PacWest rival Holy Names last weekend, splitting the short two-game series. Cal State Dominguez Hills totaled 10 hits in each of the two games, falling 6-4 in the opener but winning 4-3 in the nightcap of the doubleheader. Bubby Rossman had a three-hit first game with a pair of RBIs, while Kamran Young had a three-hit game in the second as the Toros scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to win.

STARTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT
The Knights have a lot of hot bats and live arms this year, and coming into the series will look to extend some impressive streaks. Chucky Cavestany has yet to be kept off the bases, as he is 5-for-5 in two games with an HBP. Jordan Thomas has also racked up four hits, four runs, and four RBIs along with three walks and an HBP to give him an on-base percentage of .800, while three different Urban Knights have three steals (Lyle "Kalani" Brackenridge, Joseph Marchini, Daniel Robertson. On the other side, nine of the 12 pitchers who have pitched for the Knights this year have flawless 0.00 earned run averages, as they posted a 1.96 ERA as a staff with 26 strikeouts against the Eagles.

COMING AROUND THIRD
After the series against Cal State Dominguez Hills, the Knights will host Central Washington University on February 14-16, Friday through Sunday of next week.
