Bean's All-American Finish Highlights Nationals

2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships Results (Day 1)

Winston-Salem, NC – In the second consecutive appearance for ART U Track & Field at NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals on Friday, senior Dinesha Bean reinforced her status as an All-American with a strong performance in the 60m hurdles. Jordan Edwards and Keanna Moody were also in action and it was Moody who finished just short of the top eight in the 400m dash.

Bean went up against some tough competition in her particular heat, running alongside Johnson C. Smith's Samantha Elliott and Lincoln's Ladonna Richards, but rose her level as well. Her time of 8.52 placed her seventh overall and among the group who will compete for the championship in the finals tomorrow.

In the women's 400m, Moody was edged for a spot in the top eight after offering a 56.57 which was 0.11 behind Adelphi's Angela Mongitore, the eighth place finisher. The ART U sophomore would finish ninth, besting eight others in the prelims.

Prior to Moody's race, Edwards was in action in the men's 400m where put forth a 49.12 which placed him 14th overall. Later in the 200m, the junior went 21.93, just missing the top eight by 0.1 seconds as he finished 11th overall.

"Today was a rough day at the office," head coach Charles Ryan said. "However, moments like there are the best opportunity to learn from. Clearly we expected much better results today, but we fell short. I need to do a better job of prepping out athletes for these occasions and they need to do a better job at execution of their race models. We will be back, but today was not our best showing. We still have opportunities to make some noise on Saturday and hopefully we will step out ready to run."

The Urban Knights will be back in action at JDL Fast Track tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 15, with Bean in the 60mH at 5:35 PM EST (2:35 PM PST) followed later by the women's 4x400m relay at 7:00 PM EST (4:00 PM PST).
