Tyndall Takes Home Capital One Academic Honor

Deanna Tyndall
was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Team in a Thursday announcement. Tyndall, a stellar student in the School of Music Production & Sound Design for Visual Media, finished off her collegiate career with four top 10 finishes in 2014 including first place at the InterWest Chico State Invitational.

"I'm really proud of Deanna and her successes in the classroom," head coach Elaine Harris said. "She came to Academy of Art specifically to study music and this award is testament to how she's taken full advantage of what the university has to offer. She has excelled in the classroom and at golf."

Student-athletes were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

To qualify for the CoSIDA All-District At-Large Team in Division II, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester, must be a starter or key reserve, and completed one full calendar year at their respective institution. A total of 89 student-athletes representing 66 Division II institutions met these requirements and were selected.

This season, Tyndall's biggest highlights came during a month-long span from March to early April in which she palced fourth at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout (Mar. 2), tied for first at the InterWest Chico State Invitational (Mar. 11), picked up an eighth place finish at the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invite (Mar. 25), and finally secured a tie for second at the Sonoma State Women's Spring Invite (Apr. 8) after shooting her season-best round on day two.

Tyndall, a D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner and PacWest Academic All-Conference Team last season, wrapped up her senior campaign sporting an average round score of 79.2 while ranking Top 50 in the West Region. The receipient of the ARTY for Highest Individual GPA did all this while adding to her cumulative GPA of 3.8.

"Some of my favorite times with the team this year were in the van traveling to our tournaments and I have fun memories of listening to Dee's music and her class projects; her composing is complex and hip," Coach Harris said.

There are eight districts in all and three separate teams for NCAA Division I, II and III as well as a College Division, which includes NAIA, Canadian and junior colleges. District 8 includes the PacWest, California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot. The Capital One Division II Academic All-American Team will be announced later this month.
