San Francisco, CA — The Academy of Art University women's soccer team's offense exploded Wednesday for three goals against visiting Cal State East Bay and led three different times in the match, but the Pioneers kept pace and after 110 minutes of soccer the teams wound up with a 3-3 tie at Crocker Amazon Park.
Â
Junior forward Réa Laudat scored her second and third goals of the season and senior midfielder Louise Fillingham notched her first score of the year while assisting on Laudat's second tally of the afternoon as the Urban Knights (0-4-1) earned their first draw of 2014 with a season-high three goals.
Â
Cal State East Bay also had a multi-goal scorer Wednesday with Megan Ravenscroft putting in her third and fourth goals of the season. Both scores came within minutes of the starting and ending whistles of regulation, and both sandwiched the team's second goal of the day, scored by Alyssa Rodriguez in the 52nd minute.
Â
The Urban Knights found themselves playing down a goal just 2 minutes, 39 seconds into the match after Ravenscroft's first score came on a solid strike from 28 yards out. After receiving a pass from Kendra Trifonovitch, Ravenscroft turned and beat her defender to run up the right sideline. She fired her shot just inside the right post to give CSUEB the early 1-0 lead.
Â
ART U was unfazed though, as less than five minutes later Laudat put a foot on a bouncing ball and lobbed it high in the air from 20 yards away – just out of the reach of Cal State East Bay goalkeeper Selena Braun to even it at 1-1.
Â
The match played relatively even through the first half with both teams taking seven shots, three on goal, but Academy of Art University broke the deadlock with a goal from Fillingham in the 24th minute. The British connection was on, as Laudat sent a short pass to Fillingham who turned and took a shot from nearly 35 yards away, but this one again just soared over Braun to give the Urban Knights a 2-1 advantage.
Â
It was Rodriguez's goal six minutes into the second half that squared the match at 2-all for CSUEB. Mindy Castro sent a long cross into the box from the left side, Sara Silva got a boot on it to beat a defender and sent it to Rodriguez who finished from five yards away.
Â
Again ART U was unfazed. Laudat connected with Fillingham again with less than 10 minutes to play to put the Urban Knights up 3-2 in the 82nd minute. Kendall Bozart sent in a corner kick that was initially cleared by the Cal State East Bay defense, but junior defender Caina Field headed it back into the box where Fillingham tapped it forward to Laudat for the finish.
Â
But the Pioneers answered once more 2:17 later. Castro fired a shot inside the box that was blocked, but Ravenscroft was there to grab the rebound and send in the equalizer from eight feet out.
Â
Overtime was uneventful for both programs as a defensive deadlock ensued. The Urban Knights outshot Cal State East Bay in overtime 5-1, but Braun made two saves in OT to keep them off the board. Senior goalkeeper three saves in the game for ART U.
Â
The Urban Knights next travel to Rohnert Park, Calif., to face No. 22-ranked Sonoma State at 1 p.m. Friday at Seawolves Soccer Field.
