InterWest Wildcat Classic Results (Final)CHICO, Calif. -- Helping Academy of Art University men's golf earn an 11th place finish at the InterWest Wildcat Classic on Tuesday, senior
Cody Moore followed sophomore
Oskar Frick's career-low round with one of his own, dropping a 69 on his final day through 18 holes at the Butte Creek Country Club.
Less than 24 hours after
Frick offered his 72 in round two, Moore was simply on fire in round three. He posted two birdies early, added a pair late, and finished with five on the day for his lowest score in four years of collegiate competition. Frick was just one higher than his previous career-best, shooting a 73 (+1) as he finished tied for 20th with a three-day total of 222 (77-72-73). Moore was not far behind tied for 27th with a 225 (76-80-69).
"Today was a good step for Cody," said head coach
Andy Moren. "About halfway through the round, I could tell he was in a great place so I just let him do his thing. He showed a lot of maturity today and looked really solid. It was good to see."
Sophomore
Daniel Cosgrove delivered identical scores through each of the rounds, finishing tied for 51st with a 231 (77-77-77). Senior
Dat Do was the Urban Knights' fourth qualifier in a tie for 74th.
With a 10-stroke improvement on Chico State the final day, Cal State San Marcos captured the team title, led by Dylan Healey's three-day score of 211 (72-66-73). Academy of Art remained 11th overall despite shooting the seventh-lowest round of the day. ART U was five strokes out of William Jessup in 10th and created a 12-stoke separation from Montana State-Billings in 12th. The Knights also bested Cal State Dominguez Hills, Holy Names, and Notre Dame de Namur.
"I thought we did well in our last two rounds," said Moren. "The second could have been something special, but it just slipped away a bit. Then we had some players step up in our last round so that was good. Moving forward, we just need to develop more consistency as a team."
The fall season continues for Academy of Art men's golf with the Sonoma State Fall Invitational next week on Oct. 12-13.
