Box Score 2 ST. GEORGE, Utah – Up against the No. 5 team in the country, ART U Softball sustained a pair of losses at the hands of Dixie State out at Karl Brooks Field. The Red Storm scored early and often on their way to a 12-0 five-inning game one win then Aryn Feickert (11-3) threw a perfect five innings as part of DSU's 8-0 victory in the second contest.
GAME ONEDixie State went ahead 2-0 in the first inning after stringing together a pair of run-scoring doubles and, while Academy of Art earned its first hit against Michelle Duncan (15-0) in the second, DSU came back with five in the bottom half.
In the third, the 7-0 advantage became 11-0 and the Red Storm added one more in the fourth. Freshman outfielder
Samantha Klune hit a one-out double in the fifth, but was left stranded two outs later and Dixie State finished off the run-rule victory 12-0.
GAME TWOLike Duncan, Feickert proved to be a formidable pitcher and she was backed up by a 1-0 lead after one inning then 3-0 heading into the fourth. She struck out seven while facing just 15 batters after the Red Storm added three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to activate the run-rule once again in an 8-0 victory.
For the Urban Knights (12-15 overall, 7-7 PacWest), ART U was led by 1-for-2 performances from senior infielder
Taylor Thurman, junior catcher
Elise Oldham, and Klune.
Dixie State improves to 27-5 overall and 18-0 in conference play. Courtney Hine stood out in both games, finishing the day 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.
The Urban Knights return to Karl Brooks Softball Field tomorrow to conclude the series with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. MDT (10:00 a.m. PDT).
