Traveling to Hawaii for the first time in two years, Academy of Art women's soccer is set to kickoff its first Pacific West Conference matches on the islands this week. The Urban Knights begin with three contests on Oahu and finish one week later on the Big Island.

KICKOFF
ART U commences its Hawaii roadtrip with a 12:30 p.m. HT (3:30 p.m. PT) kickoff against Hawaii Pacific on Sept. 26 at Atherton Field in Kaneohe. Two days later on Sept. 28, it will be BYU-Hawaii on the docket with a12:30 p.m. HT (3:30 p.m. PT) start at BYUH Soccer Field in Laie. The Knights have one additional day's rest before facing Chaminade at St. Louis Field in Honolulu on Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. HT (1 p.m. PT). Finally, the fourth match takes place in Hilo at UHH Soccer Field and features another 12:30 p.m. HT (3:30 p.m. PT) kickoff between Academy of Art and UH Hilo. 12543KNIGHT WATCH
Fifth in the PacWest in total points (12) after four goals and four assists in non-conference play, ART U has seen seven Urban Knights contribute to scores here in 2015. Senior forward Rea Laudat has one goal and one assist to lead the team while freshman midfielder Alice Michell, sophomore midfielder Laney Haviland, and freshman defender Natalie Rhodes have also found the back of the net. After becoming the program's leader in game-winning goals (5) with her score against Cal State Monterey Bay, Laudat continues to close in on Hannah Emmett's career records. Laudat's 12 career goals are six behind Emmett and, at 29 career points, the senior is 12 behind her former teammate. To date, Academy of Art has one assist each from junior midfielder Natalie Gabriel, senior midfielder Esme Garner-Purkis, and sophomore midfielder Kendall Bozart.

In goal, time has been split rather evenly between freshman Morgan Wirz and sophomore Maggie Alikpala-Wilson. Wirz has made all five starts thus far, however, each have 14 saves apiece which combine with one team save to tie ART U with Chaminade for the conference lead.

SPECIFICS ON HAWAII PACIFIC
At 3-2 heading into PacWest play, Hawaii Pacific has put up back-to-back victories over its fellow Hawaii schools BYU-Hawaii and Chaminade in non-conference action. The Sharks, who will not leave the islands until early October, have the most assists in the PacWest (6) and are led by Erika Ellis' five points (two goals with one assist). In goal, Kelby Boswell has handled the majority of the duties and has 10 saves with three goals allowed in four matches. In seven historical meetings, HPU has a 5-2 edge over Academy of Art, however, the Knights defeated the Sharks 2-1 last season.

SEEING SEASIDERS
Few can forget the last time ART U and BYU-Hawaii met as it featured one of the most dramatic moments in program history. In October 2014, it was none other than Rea Laudat who scored the game-winning goal for Academy of Art on a corner kick with four seconds left in double overtime to defeat the Seasiders. This year, BYUH is 0-2-1 after falling to Westminster (Utah) and Hawaii Pacific then going to a 1-1 standstill with UH Hilo on Sept. 19. BYU-Hawaii, who is 6-1 all-time against the Knights, will face Division I Hawaii on Sept. 24. Natalie Reynolds has both of BYUH's goals this year and Daryl Kaufusi has handled all goalkeeper duties with seven saves and four goals allowed.

EN GARDE
Chaminade, after facing many of the same opponents as its fellow PacWest Hawaii schools, is 1-3 coming into the start of conference play. After topping Wheeling Jesuit to open the year, the Silverswords fell to Westminster (Utah), UH Hilo, and HPU. They now host Fresno Pacific on Sept. 26 prior to meeting ART U. Chaminade's lone goal this season was a game-winner by Lauren Uehara and it is goalkeeper Lauren Ishii who leads the PacWest in saves (28). Despite a loss to the Silverswords last year, ART U is up 6-3 in the all-time matchup.

THE VULCAN VIEW
UH Hilo is 0-1-2 on the year after tying both Simon Fraser and BYU-Hawaii in non-conference play. A 1-0 loss came at the hands of Chaminade on Sept. 17. Like the Silverswords, the Vulcans have one goal on the season and it came from Kahri Golden while Jenna Hufford has handled the majority of the time in goal, offering 25 saves and one goal allowed. Prior to facing ART U, a team against whom they are 6-2, UH Hilo goes up against Notre Dame de Namur and Fresno Pacific.

CAL STATE EAST BAY TOPS WOMEN'S SOCCER
Chances were plentiful on Sept. 15 for both the Academy of Art University women's soccer team and Cal State East Bay, but it was the Pioneers who capitalized the most, scoring three goals to win 3-0 under the lights at Pioneer Stadium.

LOOKING AHEAD
Back from Hawaii, ART U embarks upon a five-part homestand which begins with Holy Names in town on Oct. 11 at Skyline College. Academy of Art students and staff are encouraged to ride the Fan Bus as the Urban Knights celebrate LGBT History Day!
