KNIGHT WATCH
During ART U's current four-game win streak, junior guard
Rodericka Ware is averaging 20.3 points and just under 5.0 assists per game. A season-high 34 points per game (one off the program's single-game record) bumped Ware up to now fourth in the PacWest in scoring average (17.3 ppg), fourth in steals per game (2.4 spg), and her 3.9 assists per contest are fifth in the conference overall. The breakout offensive performance saw her knock down three 3-pointers, just over her 2.5 triples per game which are second in the PacWest. The conference's
Defender of the Week was junior forward
Helena Orts who is one of four Urban Knights averaging 2.0 or more steals per game during the win streak. She registered two of her three double-doubles on the season in that span and comes in sixth in the PacWest in rebounds per game (8.6 rpg). Junior guard
Jazzlyn Brewster has also scored in double figures in three of her past four games and averages 9.4 points per contest.
NAMES GAME
Seven consecutive losses began the 2016-17 season for Holy Names, but a 58-49 victory over BYU-Hawaii most recently ended the skid. Prior to that, the Hawks' closest margin had been eight points against both SF State and Cal State Monterey Bay. Jeana Magana is HNU's leading scorer at 11 points per game and Tatiana Howard's 1.4 blocks per game rank sixth in the PacWest. Academy of Art is 5-3 all-time against Holy Names.
WARE ERUPTS FOR 34 POINTS IN WIN OVER BYUH
Guided by the hot hand of Ware, the Urban Knights' winning streak continued on
Dec. 5 with an 80-67 victory over BYU-Hawaii inside Kezar Pavilion. Ware exploded for a season-high 34 points, but it was her defensive contributions and those of her teammates that allowed Academy of Art to push further ahead with an eight-point scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
LOOKING AHEAD
One final non-conference game takes place for Academy of Art this calendar year and it will be back inside Kezar Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 17 when Cal State Monterey Bay comes in for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
