SAN FRANCISCO – The Urban Knights got to work quickly on Saturday, taking a 1-0 lead in the first; the Knights could not hold on however as SF State scored five unanswered runs to capture game two 5-1.
Â
After the first two batters were retired in the first inning, senior center fielder Joey Marchini reached second base on an error, which started a string of three-consecutive batters to reach the base paths. Marchini scored just three pitches later when senior third baseman
Tyler Strawn singled through the left side.
Â
Junior southpaw
Alexander Kuisel went 6.0 innings for ART U which was his longest outing of the season. The left hander allowed four runs (all earned) on nine hits, with three strikeouts and two walks. Â
Â
While the Gators managed to get five runs across the plate, the Urban Knights were subdued by the dominant pitching of Matthew Hernandez who lasted 7.2 innings, allowing six hits, one run, and four strikeouts.
Â
Despite the loss, there were two ART U batters who had successful days at the plate. Strawn was 2-for-4 for the afternoon with a run batted in and Luna posted a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
Â
"We are really looking forward to our Sunday game," said head coach
Dan McDermott. "We need to continue to find the right mix of energy, performance and attitude. We only have four games remaining until conference and we are still searching for some of the right pieces to the puzzle." Â
Â
The Urban Knights will have a chance to salvage a game against SF State when the series shifts back to Laney College for the final contest of the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
