CBU Invitational Results

CARONA, Calif. –
Academy of Art Women's Golf junior Crystal Wang headed into the final day of the California Baptist Invitational tied for first place after shooting a 73 in the first round. On the tournament's second day, the La Jolla, Calif. native finished just two strokes over her previous day's total with a 75, giving her first place overall. Wang's victory is her first during the regular season and her first title since winning regionals in 2015.

"I am so happy to see [Wang] win this tournament and play so well," said head coach Elaine Harris. "She hit the ball great and I look forward to watching more great golf from her this semester."

With three other players finishing in the top ten after day one, the team had high hopes of nabbing the top spot at the conclusion of the tournament. However, California Baptist posted the lowest total score out of any team in both rounds (301) to tie ART U for first place. The tie forced a one-hole playoff between the two team in which the Lancers just edged the Urban Knights, finishing par while ART U finished two over. The second-place finish for the Knights is their second top-two finish in the 2015-16 season, also placing second at the SSU Fall Invite.

Junior Roxanne Matta also finished in the top ten for the Urban Knights; after tying for third place on the first day, Matta tied for seventh-place after posting an 82 (+7 over her first round total). in the second round.

Sophomore Shu-lin Lin came into round two tied for eighth place, but finished round two in 16th-place after shooting six strokes over her day-one total (84).

Other finishers for ART U include freshman Sabrina Virtusio (T17) and sophomore Sterling Hawkins (T31).

The Urban Knights are back in action when they head to the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in Vallejo, Calif. March 7-8.
