HERO Sports HERO of the Week (May 2)
BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Academy of Art University softball junior outfielder
Jessica West has officially been named HERO of the Week after HERO Sports included her contributions to an
Apr. 21 upset victory over No. 16 California Baptist in a week-long poll featuring standout single-game performances from around the country.
Backed by 65 percent of the public vote, West's two two home runs powered ART U to an 8-7 upset over its highest ranked opponent since 2011. The Portland, Ore. native cranked the second and third home runs of her career to help her squad establish a 6-1 lead and later made it a 3-for-4 performance with a single in the sixth. West would match her season-high with three runs batted in.
In addition to being named HERO of the Week, West earned her first career
PacWest Player of the Week award after batting .643 and slugging 1.357 with two home runs, two doubles, one triple, four runs batted in, seven runs scored, and three stolen bases.
Other performances on the HERO Sports ballot included two-homer games from McKenzie Supernaw of Grand Valley State and Allison Sumski of Stonehill.
This is not only West's first career HERO of the Week honor, but it is the first by any Urban Knight to date.
