ACADEMY OF ART HITS HAWAII FOR THREE THEN HOSTS CONCORDIA

Despite falling in each of their past three games, the Urban Knights remain sixth in the Pacific West Conference standings which serves as the cutoff to reach the Championship Tournament. Academy of Art enters its final regular season roadtrip this weekend with games at Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific, and BYU-Hawaii all on the island of Honolulu then returns to host Concordia for the first time to start the following week.

OPENING TIP
Beginning their Hawaii roadtrip at Chaminade's McCabe Gymnasium, ART U returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. HT (8 p.m. PT). Two days later on Monday, Feb. 12, the Knights face Hawaii Pacific inside Moanalua High School's gym at 4:30 p.m. HT (7:30 p.m. PT). Then, Academy of Art completes its Hawaiian adventure at BYU-Hawaii's Cannon Activities Center on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. HT (8 p.m. PT). Four days after ART U returns to San Francisco, the Knights open their final regular season homestand by hosting Concordia at 5:30 p.m. inside Kezar Pavilion on Monday, Feb. 20. KNIGHT WATCH
15444Still first in the PacWest and top 20 in the country in steals per game (11.32), ART U is now also tied for second in the PacWest in offensive rebounds per game (14.3) after collectively grabbing the fifth-most in program history (65) at Notre Dame de Namur on Feb. 6. Junior guard Rodericka Ware and junior forward Helena Orts remain the top two threats offensively for the Urban Knights. Top 22 in the country, Ware is still averaging the most 3-pointers made per game in the PacWest (2.9) and ranks third in the conference in scoring (18.7 ppg), second in steals (2.5 spg), and fourth in assists (4.1 apg). She also is now 16 3-pointers from setting the program's single-season record. Orts is fifth in the PacWest in field goal percentage (.507) and on pace to finish second in ART U record book for a single-season. Her 11 double-doubles rank 20th in all of NCAA Division II and she is still top 10 in the conference in both scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg) after posting 25 points plus a career-high 16 rebounds versus the Argos most recently. Freshman guard Karleigh Joseph also had a breakout game against NDNU, posting career-highs across the board with 22 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four blocks, and two steals.

SWORDPLAY
Chaminade opened the year with a five-game losing streak, defeated UH Hilo on the road in mid-December, then suffered eight more losses before topping Fresno Pacific 79-76 in overtime. Since then, the Silverswords have gone 1-5 with a win over Holy Names and begin a three-game season-ending homestand by hosting ART U this weekend. Lilia Maio is Chaminade's leading scorer (13.6 points per game) and she is followed closely by Kristle Henry's 12.9 points per game. In eight years of matchups, Academy of Art is a perfect 14-0 against the Silverswords.

15445SHARKS LURKING
Though Hawaii Pacific lost its first two games of the season, a six-game win streak followed and, besides two conference losses to California Baptist, the Sharks have otherwise won 13 contests against PacWest opponents. HPU looks to make it four straight wins when they host Fresno Pacific on Feb. 11. The Sharks rank second in the conference in points allowed (60.2) and lead the PacWest in rebounding margin (7.6) thanks in large part to Breanna Mackenzie (13.4 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Aminata Cole (6.6 rpg). Hawaii Pacific has met Academy of Art 13 times previously and owns an 8-5 all-time advantage.

THE FAR SIDE
Since ART U's 80-67 win over BYU-Hawaii back on Dec. 5, the Seasiders have been up and down, winning four of their next five games before hitting a 2-8 rough patch. BYUH looks to end its five-game losing streak at UH Hilo on Feb. 11 which comes before FPU is in town on Feb. 13. Three Seasiders are averaging double figures offensively led by Safia Sheikh's 15.3 points per game (ninth in PacWest). Kristin Baldwin (11.2 ppg, 11.0 rpg) is one of just two players in the conference currently averaging a double-double. The Knights' victory earlier this year was their 11th in 15 historical meetings with BYU-Hawaii.

EAGER EAGLES
It has been a seesaw season for Concordia who has never won or lost more than two games in a row at any point thus far. Overall the Eagles are 9-12 and 7-8 in PacWest play with series sweeps of Dixie State, BYU-Hawaii, and Chaminade. CUI will rematch with Azusa Pacific (Feb. 11), Dominican (Feb. 16), and Holy Names (Feb. 18) prior to facing ART U on Feb. 20. No Eagle is averaging double figures offensively as Sopavy Seng (9.7 ppg), Ugochi Anudokem (9.3 ppg), and Montana Walters (9.0 ppg). Anudokem adds a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game. New to the PacWest two years ago, Concordia has matched up with ART U three times and Academy of Art holds a 2-1 all-time advantage.

ARGOS TOP KNIGHTS IN DOUBLE OT THRILLER
In a rematch of two teams battling for spots in the Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament, Academy of Art University women's basketball and Notre Dame de Namur needed not one but two overtime periods to settle the score on Feb. 6 inside Walter Gleason Gym. A career performance on both ends of the court from freshman guard Karleigh Joseph, including a game-saving block at the end of the first overtime, junior forward Helena Orts' 25 points and 16 rebounds, plus the fifth-most rebounds in program history were not enough as the Argonauts went on a 17-7 run in the second overtime to win 92-82.

LOOKING AHEAD
ART U plays its final two home games of the regular season Thursday, Feb. 23 (UH Hilo at City College of San Francisco) and Saturday, Feb. 25 (Azusa Pacific at SF State's Main Gym).
