SAN FRANCISCO – Back inside Kezar Pavilion for their third game in seven days, Academy of Art University women's basketball used a 34-point first quarter to get ahead of Chaminade and never looked back Monday evening. Though the Silverswords played a better second half, ART U fended off their comeback hopes early in the fourth and used three more double-doubles to power the 85-69 win. Of those, redshirt senior forward
Pre'Franz Dominick delivered 18 points with a career-high 23 rebounds to tie the program's single-game record.
After keeping Chaminade scoreless for the first two minutes, the Urban Knights jockeyed for position before unleashing a 16-0 run that began with a 3-pointer from senior guard
Hayley Pryor and ended with consecutive long-range makes from junior guard
Inga Kot. Though the Swords stopped the run briefly, Academy of Art then closed the quarter on a 10-0 surge on two triples, a layup, and two free throws all from senior forward
Helena Orts.
ART U's second-highest scoring quarter in program history ended with the home team on top 34-11. The Knights had previously put up 37 against Dominican on
Feb. 20, 2016. The Academy of Art lead remained north of 20 points for the entirety of the second quarter as redshirt senior guard
Jazzlynn Brewster offered some important baskets midway through and free throws at the end to make it 49-24 heading to halftime.

The margin hovered right around 20 points for much of the third quarter then Chaminade cut it to 16 with one minute and 33 seconds left. A 10-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters brought the Silverswords within striking distance at 70-60 with 6:53 left in regulation, but, with 3-pointers from sophomore forward
Ines Medina and Brewster, the 8-2 ART U response that ensued kept the visitors at bay. Dominick, who converted the final Academy of Art basket, secured two rebounds on the same possession with less than two minutes left to register her milestone 23rd rebound. The Knights would go on to stand victorious 85-69.
Now winners of three consecutive games, ART U moves to 5-14 overall and 4-7 in PacWest play. Double-doubles came from Orts (23 points, 10 rebounds), Brewster (20 points, 10 assists), and Dominick (18 points, 23 rebounds) while Kot added a career-high nine points on three 3-pointers. The Knights' second-highest rebound total of the season (56) featured Dominick's career-high 23 to tie the record set by
Alisa Griggs against Dominican on
Jan. 30, 2012. It was the
PacWest Defender of the Week's 10th double-double in 2017-18 and came with three steals plus two blocks.
Chaminade falls to 1-9 on the year and 1-7 in conference action. Destiny Castro provided a team-high 24 points, six steals, and five rebounds while Diamond Carter finished with 15 points.
One game remains for Academy of Art on this four-part homestand and it comes this Saturday, Jan. 20 when Dixie State comes to Kezar Pavilion for a PacWest rematch. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
