23 boards against Chaminade to tie the program record. With her 16.6 points per game (sixth in the PacWest), she now has 10 double-doubles to rank seventh in the nation. Additionally, she is up to sixth in the conference in blocks per game (1.3).
The leading scorer for the Knights in their past three games, senior forward
Helena Orts is averaging 25.0 points per game in that span along with 10.3 rebounds per contest and now ranks eighth in the PacWest in scoring (16.2 ppg) as well as eighth in rebounding (8.3) and third in steals per game (2.3). Redshirt senior guard
Jazzlynn Brewster has delivered double-doubles in her past two games, averaging 16.0 points and 10.0 assists per game, making her now the PacWest leader and 21st in DII in assists per game (5.5) and moving her to 10th in scoring (15.6 ppg). BLAZING THE TRAIL
Since defeating ART U 79-73 back on
Dec. 2 then Azusa Pacific (ranked No. 13 at the time and No. 15 now) one week later, Dixie State dropped four consecutive games and despite besting Dominican on Jan. 5, the Trailblazers are now 2-6 in their last eight games. DSU is slated to play Dominican once more on Jan. 18 before completing its Bay Area roadtrip against Academy of Art on Saturday. Third in the PacWest in 3-pointers made per game (8.2), the Trailblazers have been led by the tandem of Mariah Martin (11.8 ppg, 21 points versus ART U on Dec. 2) and Taylor Moeaki (11.7 ppg). After Dixie State's win earlier this season, the Knights' all-time lead against the Trailblazers is down to 8-7.
BIG FIRST QUARTER GUIDES ACADEMY OF ART TO TRIUMPH OVER SWORDS
Back inside Kezar Pavilion for their third game in seven days, Academy of Art University women's basketball used a 34-point first quarter to get ahead of Chaminade and never looked back on
Jan. 15. Though the Silverswords played a better second half, ART U fended off their comeback hopes early in the fourth and used three more double-doubles to power the 85-69 win. Of those, redshirt senior forward
Pre'Franz Dominick delivered 18 points with a career-high 23 rebounds to tie the program's single-game record.
LOOKING AHEAD
Though its current four-game homestand will be complete this week, the Urban Knights will remain local for the remainder of January, traveling across the Golden Gate Bridge to face Dominican on Jan. 27 then hosting Biola on Jan. 29.
