ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Junior outfielder
Thomas Delgadillo became ART U's single-season hit leader after connecting for his 60
th knock of the season in game two, but the Urban Knights dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader at College of Alameda.
Game One: APU 10, ART U 2
ART U fell behind early in the first inning, after APU put one across on senior pitcher
Angel Mora. The senior out of Torrance shutdown APU's offense with back to back scoreless innings until the top of the fourth when the Cougars knocked in three more runs.
APU scored another three runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth to extend their lead 8-0. In the bottom of the sixth, senior utility
Donnie Gardiner drove a single up the middle to bring in junior shortstop
Justin Summers and get ART U on the board. The Cougars struck for one run in the seventh and one in the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth senior utility
Caden Spilsbury grounded out to shortstop allowing Delgadillo to score for the final run of the game.
Game Two: APU 13, ART U 9
The second game started similar to game one, with the Cougars striking early, plating four runs on a single and three run homer in the first. Senior pitcher
Mason Verhees settled in from there, throwing three scoreless innings in a row while only allowing one hit and striking out four. ART U scored their first run of the game in the third when sophomore outfielder
Noah Daubin knocked in Delgadillo with a single to right field. In the bottom of the fourth, Delgadillo knocked a single up the middle for his 60th hit of the season to pass Joey Marchini for the top spot on the single-season hits list and load the bases. Senior first-baseman
Josh Carlin scored Summers on a fielder's choice to second-base, before senior infielder
Elijah Smith hit a single to left center to score junior utility
Daniel Curiel and bring ART U within one, down 4-3.
In the final three innings the Cougars added seven runs to take a commanding lead, but  ART U sparked a seventh inning rally and loaded the bases. Junior outfielder
Alex Golembiewski hit a single to left field sending Gardiner home. The runs kept coming and senior outfielder
Taj Dawson, Curiel, Golembiewski, Mora, and Smith all came home for a sixth run seventh, but the deficit was too large to make up.
Gardiner had a season high three hits in the loss and Smith went a fantastic 4-5 with two RBI and a run. Delgadillo went 2-2 for his seventh multi-hit game in the past eight games and Curiel had two hits and scored two runs.
After the pair of losses, Academy of Art falls to 14-23 overall and 6-20 in conference. The Urban Knights will conclude their series with the Cougars tomorrow back at Laney College on senior day at noon.
