KNIGHT WATCH

Still the PacWest leaders in offensive rebounds per game (14.7) and second in steals per game (11.1, 31st in NCAA DII), Academy of Art also has relied heavily upon junior guard
Pam Wilmore of late. She comes in as the PacWest leader at 6.1 assists per game (seventh in NCAA DII) and second in steals per game (2.5) while averaging 18.0 points per game in her last three contests. On the year, graduate student guard
Tayler Bennett remains the team's top scorer (14.2 points per game, 12th in PacWest) with most of her damage being done from long range. She and senior guard
Josselyn Morris (10.6 points per game) remain the PacWest's top two in three-point field goals made per game (2.9 and 2.8 respectively) while Bennett is the conference leader in three-point field goal percentage (.355). Behind Wilmore in steals per game, the trio of Bennett (2.0), junior guard/forward
Lily Perkins (1.9), and freshman forward
Aari'yanna Sanders (1.9) all rank among the top 10 in the PacWest. Junior forward
Megan Jefferson, the team's top rebounder, checks in at 11th in the conference with 6.7 boards per contest.
SWORDS A SECOND TIME
Playing 11 games since their 75-68 victory over ART U on
Dec. 15, Chaminade has gone 3-8 with two victories over Holy Names and one at Notre Dame de Namur during that span. Ahead of Academy of Art by one conference victory, the Silverswords are slated to face Concordia (Calif.) on Jan. 25 then finish their current stretch of nine of 10 games at home with the Knights two days later. Destiny Castro's 3.5 steals per game lead the PacWest (sixth in NCAA DII) and her 18.4 points per game rank third in the conference. ART U still holds a commanding 17-3 all-time record versus Chaminade.
VENTURING INTO SHARK-INFESTED WATERS
After coming to San Francisco for a 98-74 win at Academy of Art, Hawaii Pacific went on to defeat Fresno Pacific by 32 points and ascend to No. 7 in the latest WBCA national ranking. The Sharks are set to host Holy Names (Jan. 25) and Concordia (Jan. 27) before ART U during a short homestand that leads into another mainland trip. HPU still leads the PacWest in points per game (81.8, eighth in NCAA DII), assists per game (19.7, second in NCAA DII), and field goal percentage (.441). Starr Rivera, who scored 31 points in the
Jan. 19 meeting with the Knights, rose to fourth in the PacWest in scoring (17.2 points per game) while Amy Baum now sits behind Wilmore at 5.9 assists per game (second in PacWest, ninth in NCAA DII). The historical matchup with Academy of Art favors the Sharks 14-6.
TO HILO WE GO
With Chaminade, UH Hilo is one of three teams tied at 4-8 in the PacWest standings, one win ahead of ART U. The only Hawaii team the Knights have not faced thus far, the Vulcans started 1-7, but have since balanced a bit with four wins in their last eight games including victories over Fresno Pacific and Point Loma. A four-part homestand pits Hilo against Holy Names on Jan. 27 before Academy of Art comes to town. Allie Navarette ranks third in the PacWest at 16.5 points per game and fifth in rebounding (8.4) to lead the Vulcans. In 15 meetings prior to this season, ART U holds an 8-7 edge over UH Hilo.
THIRD QUARTER MOMENTUM SHIFT GETS NO. 11 HPU PAST ART U
An evenly played first half saw Academy of Art women's basketball up 39-38 on No. 11 Hawaii Pacific at halftime, but after the Sharks opened the third quarter with a 22-1 run, the visitors came away with a 98-74 Pacific West Conference victory on
Jan. 19 inside Kezar Pavilion. Wilmore posted 24 points to tie her season-high and lead three Urban Knights scoring in double figures.
LOOKING AHEAD
When ART U returns from Hawaii, a four-part homestand will begin with Fresno Pacific coming to Kezar Pavilion the evening of Thursday, Feb. 6. Academy of Art will host Campus Safety Knight for the first home game after the start of the spring semester.
