KNIGHT WATCH

The first two Academy of Art women's soccer matches of 2021 were nail-biters as Fresno Pacific used a goal in the 81st minute to prevail 1-0 on
Feb. 2 and a 1-1 battle on
Feb. 6 went Dominican's way in the 93rd minute of overtime.
Â
Senior midfielder and Preseason All-PacWest Team honoree
Sydney Cooke provided the first goal of the Urban Knights' season in the 81st minute versus Dominican. That score moved her up into a tie with fourth-place Louise Fillingham for career points (24) and sixth-place Margret Thorolfsdottir for career goals (7) at Academy of Art. Defensively, senior goalkeeper
Lara Pflicke has played all but 45 minutes thus far, adding three saves to give her 125 in her career (firmly fourth in ART U history). The trio of junior defender
Britney Flint, sophomore defender
Katie Williams, and senior midfielder
Alyssa Rasmussen remain the Knights' minutes leaders with 183 apiece.
HOLY NAMES GAME
After having their first two matches postponed, the Hawks will make their 2020-21 debut against Academy of Art on Thursday. Holy Names, who went 1-14-3 overall in 2019, returns its top goal scorer, Abbi Alexander, owner of five goals plus two assists last season in addition to their leader in both starts and minutes in goal Nyah Summers. Historically, HNU and ART U are 4-4-1 against one another.
IN THE FRES-KNOW
Following victory over Academy of Art, Fresno Pacific made its home debut, adding its third consecutive 1-0 win in non-conference action versus Westmont. Alexis Macias had the game-winners versus William Jessup in FPU's season opener as well as the matchup with Westmont, but ART U will be particularly weary of Mackenzie Madron who netted the decisive score in their contest last week. Chiara Soergel has handled all 270 minutes in goal for the Sunbirds, logging three shutouts with six saves. FPU brings an 8-1-1 historical record against the Knights.
LOOKING AHEAD
Two more home matches remain for Academy of Art with Dominican tentatively set for Sunday, Feb. 21 and Holy Names at the conclusion on Friday, Feb. 26.
