2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships Results (Day 2)
ALLENDALE, Mich. – It was another trip to the podium for
Marie-Jeanne Ourega on Friday as Academy of Art track & field's second day of action in NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships was highlighted by her second-place result in the triple jump. She added a qualification to the final of the 100m hurdles while
Selena Arjona-Alcazar emerged as the leader out of the 200m dash prelims at Grand Valley State's Lacrosse & Track Stadium.

Ourega carried the momentum from defending her
national title in the long jump the day prior into a triple jump competition where she again began in the second flight. Her first legal jump of 41-4.25 (12.60m), a new personal record, on her second attempt immediately rocketed the native of L'Haÿ-les-Roses, France to third overall. Ourega's third try was not only her best of the day but also in her career as she flew to 42-4 (12.90m), rising her to second behind University of Mary's D'Andra Morris. Though Morris' final attempt would put her further ahead than the 0.25 inches which had separated jumpers to that point, Ourega still ended as the runner-up and now an 11-time All-American in her career.
Mere moments after hoisting her triple jump trophy, Ourega stepped onto the track for the prelims of the 100m hurdles. She proceeded to run the fastest wind-legal time in her ART U career with a 13.74 which both won her heat and put her third overall heading to Saturday's final.
Less than 24 hours after she broke her own program record in the 100m dash, Arjona-Alcazar continued to light up the track in the 200m prelims. The native of Panama City, Panama was step-for-step with West Texas A&M's Leah Belfield and a photo finish favored Arjona-Alcazar first by 0.003 seconds at 23.40 (23.390). The time carried a +2.1 m/s wind and, as a new lifetime-best by 0.10 seconds, led Arjona-Alcazar to take first overall.
The women's 4x400m relay prelims served as the day's final event and the top nine teams to advance were determined by a fraction of a second.
Alice Coisne,
Alisha Wilson,
Alexandria Okon, and
Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye combined to go 3:47.78 which, while sixth in their heat and 11th overall, just missed qualification to the final by less than one second.
The prelims of the women's 800m saw
Natalia Novak out in front and jockeying for the top spot 30 seconds in through the minute that followed. Approaching the home stretch just after 1:30.00 on the clock, however, Azusa Pacific's Mikayla Akers appeared to step on the back foot of Novak, causing Akers to fall and Novak to lose her shoe seconds later. As a result, Novak was forced to run the final 43 seconds with just one shoe and ended up crossing the finish line at 2:13.47 to take seventh in the heat and 20th overall.
On the men's side of the 800m prelims,
Abdelouakil Mustapha was the early leader and could be found battling for second in a tight pack at the 47-second mark. A strong push from others in his heat led the Communications & Media Technologies major to come through sixth in his group and 19th overall with a time of 1:51.39.
Combining the pair of top-two finishes for Ourega, the Academy of Art women's team has 18 points and sits fourth overall with seven of 21 events scored.
Championship Saturday will be the third and final day of Outdoor Nationals, starting with
Mathieu Tshani and
Yacouba Gnacko in the triple jump at 12:45 a.m. ET (9:45 a.m. PT).
