Servin Still Seventh Despite Slight Slip At West Regional

2022 NCAA DII West Regional (Second Round)

STOCKTON, Calif. –
Academy of Art women's golf junior Anahi Servin, the newly christened four-time Pacific West Conference Golfer of the Year, remains in the top-10 at the NCAA DII West Regional from Brookside Golf Course after the second round of action on Tuesday, dropping five spots into a tie for seventh place with a combined score of even-par 144.

Entering the day just one stroke off the lead in second place, Servin was cruising through the early part of her day on the front nine as she recorded a pair of birdies on holes four and six to yet again briefly put her atop the leaderboard. Unfortunately a bogey on the eighth hole meant Servin would make the turn to the back nine at 1-under.

The second set of nine was not nearly as kind to Servin, as while she would tally six par saves over the final nine holes, Servin was plagued by a bogey on hole 12 before going a combined 5-over combined on the final two holes to end round two at 5-over-par 77.

At even-par, Servin now sits seven strokes off the lead as the duo of Faith Kilgore (Colorado Christian University) and Sahara Washington (Texas A&M International) who each hold a share of the lead at 7-under-par 137. Now the top individual competitor is Morgan Sjoerdsma of Cal State Los Angeles at 1-under-par 143, but Servin remains the top PacWest competitor ahead of Sami Penor of Biola (tied for 18th, 4-over-par 148) and 2022 PacWest individual champion Claire Shubin of Dominican (tied for 20th, 5-over-par 149).

For Servin to advance to NCAA Nationals, she must finish as one of the top two individuals not on an advancing team (top five teams advance). To do so as the field currently stands, she must catch either Sjoerdsma or Drishti Karumbaya of Cal State East Bay, as the Pioneers currently sit sixth as a team while Karumbaya rests in fourth place at 3-under-par 141.

Tomorrow will see the final round of the NCAA DII West Regional, and Servin will commence the final stage of her quest to make it to NCAA Nationals when she tees off at 9:50 a.m.
