Addition Of Medellin Deepens Women's Soccer Roster

SAN FRANCISCO – Expanding its ranks in its preparation for the upcoming 2022 season, Academy of Art women's soccer has announced that the third member of the Fall 2022 recruiting class will be Danielle Medellin (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale High School). 

Dani MedellinComing in as the second true freshman of the ever-increasing recruiting class, Medellin most recently attended Stockdale High School in her hometown of Bakersfield, Calif. where she played varsity soccer for three seasons before graduating this past spring. One of the best years Medellin had for the Mustangs came in her sophomore campaign in 2019-20, as the forward scored at least once in seven of her eight matches played, ending the year with a total of eight goals for an average of 1.0 per game. Thanks to an assist streak where Medellin tallied a helper in each of Stockdale's final four contests, she closed out the year an with eye-popping 20 points (average of 2.9 per game). Medellin's performance on the year not only netted her a selection to the All-League First Team, but also captured the hardware for Most Valuable Offensive Player and a spot in her first All-Star Game. 

Though the Mustangs did not compete in the 2020-21 season, Stockdale compiled a 12-6-6 overall record in 2021-22 and would place third in the Southwest Yosemite Division of California's Central Section. Though they were able to secure the eighth and final playoff spot in the 2022 DI CIF Central Section Girls Soccer tournament, they would fall to the No. 1 seed and eventual champion Buchanan Bears in the first round. 

"I am excited to attend school in The City and continue playing soccer at the next level," Medellin said. 

In addition to her prep career, Medellin has also spent time with soccer clubs such as South Valley Surf SC (five seasons) and Roadrunner United FC (previously known as LA Galaxy Bakersfield; nine seasons), the latter of which was an MLS associated youth soccer club. Upon her arrival, Medellin will enroll in the School of Communications & Media Technologies with the goal of joining the public relations industry. She joins a 2022 recruiting class that also features Alicia Calderon and Claire Lau
