SAN FRANCISCO – Making its first appearance at the friendly confines of Paul Goode Field, Academy of Art women's soccer ran into a tough Sonoma State squad as SSU produced a trio of goals in each half to take a 6-0 non-conference win on Tuesday.
Despite their best efforts, the Urban Knights (0-3-0) found little room to work against a stingy Seawolves (1-1-0) unit as the home team was limited to just one shot in the match, which was a close attempt in the eighth minute from senior midfielder
Reyna Valencia that just sailed over the right of the goal. Only minutes later in the 15th, Sonoma State struck for its first tally on a ball in the top left portion of the net from Lexi Zandonella-Arasa.
The Seawolves struck for two goals to push the match to 3-0 thanks to Annette Sotelo, as her brace came just four minutes apart in the 32nd and 36th. On the first she was the beneficiary of a one-touch pass to tap home a goal, and later cleaned up the rebound of a teammate's shot. Zandonella-Arasa made her day a hat trick by netting the first two goals of the second half in the 67th and 71st minutes, while Hailey Freeman was the final tally in the 90th minute.
Facing a barrage of 31 shots, ART U freshman goalkeeper
Alicia Calderon still totaled seven saves in the match, giving her a total of 15 through her first three matches as an Urban Knight.
Academy of Art will turn its attention to Cal State Monterey Bay, as the Knights travel south to face the Otters this Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
