KNIGHT WATCH
Halfway through the non-conference portion of its season, Academy of Art has met three California Collegiate Athletics Association opponents in Chico State, Sonoma State, and Cal State Monterey Bay with NCAA Division III UC Santa Cruz in between. Tallying the lone goal in the season for ART U thus far is redshirt sophomore forward
Hannah Moore, doing so in unassisted fashion when she was able to get her foot on a clearance attempt from the UC Santa Cruz goalkeeper, with the ball resulting in the net to give the Knights its first lead on the scoreboard this campaign.
Defensively, freshman goalkeeper
Alicia Calderon has produced a total of 29 saves in her four starts this season, making at least five saves in her 360 minutes between the pipes. Her best performance came in the season opener against Chico State when she made nine stops, while most recently she denied eight attempts against Cal State Monterey Bay.
GAUGING THE GATORS
In search of its first win of the year, SF State dropped one-goal losses to No. 5 Seattle Pacific and Central Washington before being topped by UH Hilo 3-1 most recently on Sept. 8. Responsible for the Gators' two goals thus far are Samantha Shim and AJ Tanner while Marcella Salyer has handled over 253 minutes in goal, registering 13 saves with six goals allowed. Academy of Art and SF State will meet for the first time since 2019 this weekend with the latter up 4-0 historically.
URBAN KNIGHTS CAN'T KEEP PACE AGAINST OTTERS
While Academy of Art women's soccer set its season-high in shots on goal by putting both of their attempts on net, ART U could not keep up with Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 3 as a trio of first half goals powered CSUMB to a 4-0 victory.
LOOKING AHEAD
Two more non-conference matchups lie ahead for the Urban Knights who meet familiar opponents in Fresno Pacific (Sept. 17) on the road and Holy Names (Sept. 21) at home.
