Rebounding, Defense Prompt Wilson's PacWest Weekly Honor

PacWest Weekly Awards (Jan. 4)

IRVINE, Calif. – Achieving her two best rebounding efforts of the season while helping Academy of Art women's basketball win twice while holding its opponents to single-digit point totals in three different quarters, sophomore forward/center Alisha Wilson was garnered her first Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week selection of the year. Wilson averaged 10.5 defensive rebounds in the victories while adding three steals and one block. The award is for games played from Dec. 29 - Jan. 3.

A truly memorable performance came for Wilson in the Urban Knights' final game of the 2022 calendar year against Holy Names on Dec. 30 as she posted career-highs of 28 points and 22 rebounds (10 on the defensive end) for her fifth double-double of the season. She added a steal in the 79-50 victory that saw the Hawks score just nine points in the second quarter followed by another nine in the fourth while being held to the second-lowest point total by an ART U opponent this year (Chaminade's 48 points on Dec. 10 were the fewest thus far).

Back in action on Jan. 2, Wilson produced yet another double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds (11 defensive) plus two steals and one block to guide a 66-53 triumph over Fresno Pacific in which the Sunbirds scored just eight points in the final quarter.

On the year, Wilson ranks first in the PacWest in double-doubles (6) as well as rebounds (11.7), eighth in steals (2.0), and 11th in blocks per game (0.7).

This is the first PacWest weekly honor for Wilson this season and the third in her career after she was selected twice in the 2021-22 campaign.
