2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships Results (Day 1)
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – For the third time in her career,
Marie-Jeanne Ourega hoisted a national championship trophy on Friday as she delivered a new indoor best in the long jump to highlight Academy of Art track & field's first day of action at NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals inside Virginia Beach Sports Center.

The last of all 20 long jumpers to step onto the runway, Ourega opened the competition with a new indoor best and simply never looked back. She posted a 20-9.75 (6.34m) on her first try which immediately put her third in Indoor Nationals history and 10th in DII history. The Communications & Media Technologies major would jump no shorter than 20-3.5 (6.18m) in her three legal completions and secured her first indoor title by more than eight full inches.
In the prelims of the 60m hurdles, Ourega narrowly missed qualification to the final, going 8.64 to finish ninth overall and just 0.01 seconds from Sophia Myers (8.63) of Lincoln (Mo.).
Just over half a second behind his 400m heat winner, Pitt State's Braylen Brewer,
Duncan Agyemang secured his place in the event's final with a time of 47.86. The mark was the Communications & Media Technologies major's second-fastest of the season, settling him at eighth overall in the 17-runner field, bettering the ninth spot by 0.04 seconds.
Facing off against Minnesota State's Denisha Cartwright in her 200m heat,
Selena Arjona-Alcazar crossed the finish line at 24.05, second to the prelims leader. The Communications & Media Technologies major would end up seventh overall out of 18 competitors, earning a spot in Saturday's final. Additionally, matching her best time this season, Arjona-Alcazar turned in a 7.48 mark in the 60m prelims, taking ninth overall. She finished 0.01 seconds from Tiffin's Rajiah Andrews for the last qualifying spot.
Lina Hanich battled Grand Valley State's Taryn Chapko throughout their 800m prelims heat and, though Hanich held multiple leads, the end result for the Fashion Merchandising major was a time of 2:12.07. She ended fourth in her heat, 11th overall, and was just 0.61 seconds from the cutoff to advance.
The men's 60m hurdles prelims saw
Robin Black go 8.61 and he would not compete in the subsequent 60m prelims moments later nor the afternoon's 200m prelims.
Championship Saturday's action will begin locally at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) with Ourega in the triple jump and progress through until the final event of the day, the men's 4x400m relay, at 6:45 p.m. ET (3:45 p.m. PT).
