2023 CSC Academic All-District Women's Tennis Teams
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Continuing to demonstrate success both on the court and in the classroom, Academy of Art women's tennis juniors
Yun "Nicole" Shiau and
Viktoria Leth as well as sophomores
Julia Ortega and
Erica Hellbe were awarded spots on the 2023 Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team, selected by the College Sports Communicators.
Student-athletes were selected by CSC members and recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To qualify for the CSC All-District Women's Tennis Teams in Division II, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or greater through the most-recent semester and must have completed one full calendar year at her institution (graduate students are an exception to this requirement). A total of 257 student-athletes from 104 institutions were honored. Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot to be announced in June.
"Congratulations to Nicole, Julia, Viktoria, and Erica for being recognized for their academic success," said Head Coach
Clarisse Baca. "Not only did they achieve above a 3.5 cumulative GPA, but they also love what they do. They are passionate about their craft."

Shiau finished her collegiate career at ART U with more than 35 victories across singles and doubles while supporting a 3.98 cumulative GPA in the School of Communications & Media Technologies. Twice the recipient of the Best Individual GPA by a female student-athlete and the
2022 Urban Knight of the Year over the past two ARTYs Awards, Shiau completed her three-year run with a 19-14 singles record, an 18-15 doubles record, three All-PacWest Team honors (First Team doubles once, Second Team singles twice, Third Team doubles once), and the
2021 ITA West Regional Doubles Championship with
Sofia Ragona. She was also the
2022 PacWest Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year,
2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team, twice an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and twice Academic All-PacWest.
Ortega delivered nine of her 32 career singles victories in 2023 while working toward a 3.81 cumulative GPA in the School of Communications & Media Technologies. She picked up six wins in the second singles position for the Urban Knights and went on to be named the team's Most Valuable Player. Finishing her four years with the program at 32-14 overall in singles, Ortega earned two ITA Scholar-Athlete awards and was a three-time Academic All-PacWest recipient.
Leth's second season with the program saw her contribute 15 wins across singles and doubles play as she shined in the classroom with a 3.73 cumulative GPA in the School of Interaction & UI/UX Design as well. An ITA Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-PacWest honoree each once in her career, Leth was undefeated in seven singles matches across the third and fourth position as well as 7-2 on the third doubles court, helping move her to 18-9 overall in her singles career and 15-9 in doubles competition.
Also thriving in the School of Interaction & UI/UX Design with a 3.60 cumulative GPA, Hellbe received postseason recognition in 2023 on the
All-PacWest Second Team with doubles partner
Jessica Plazas. Hellbe, a two-time Academic All-PacWest honoree and once ITA Scholar-Athlete, tied with three others (including Leth) for the most doubles victories on the team at seven and added four more singles wins.
This is the second time Shiau has received CSC All-District academic honors while it is the first for Ortega, Leth, and Hellbe.
