Shiau Recognized On CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

2022 Academic All-District At-Large Teams

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Excelling on and off the court with a 3.97 cumulative GPA in the School of Communications & Media Technologies, Academy of Art women's tennis sophomore Yun "Nicole" Shiau was recognized with a place on the 2022 Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Yun Nicole ShiauStudent-athletes were selected by members of CoSIDA and recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To qualify for the CoSIDA All-District At-Large Teams in Division II, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and must have completed one full calendar year at his or her institution (graduate students are an exception to this requirement). On the women's side, a total of 87 individuals from 51 institutions were honored. First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot to be announced in mid-June.

At one time enjoying a national singles rank as high as No. 42 in NCAA Division II, Shiau tallied an 9-5 record which included a 2-0 mark from the No. 1 position and a 4-1 record from the No. 2 position. Opening the season on a five-match winning streak, Shiau lost just one set across the eight matches that she won en route to being named All-PacWest Second Team

Along with her All-PacWest First Team doubles teammate Sofia Ragona, Shiau posted an 8-3 record this season exclusively from court one after capturing the ITA West Regional Doubles Championship. They would represent the Knights in Rome, Ga. on the national level at the ITA Cup, where they lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual champions. They would clinch the doubles point for ART U in their opening-round win against MSU Denver in the PacWest Championship Tournament and added another victory over Biola's top team in the quarterfinals.

Embodying the quintessential Academy of Art student-athlete with a 4.00 GPA over the last two semesters, 15 hours of community service, and the aforementioned athletic honors, Shiau also received the 2022 Richard & Clara Gil Stephens Urban Knight of the Year at the ARTYs Awards.

This is the first time Shiau or any Urban Knight from ART U women's tennis has received the CoSIDA academic honor.
