WALNUT, Calif. – The first day of action for the Urban Knights at Mt. SAC Relays featured standout performances from Academy of Art track & field, most notably the fastest 100m dash in program history from
Lauryn James.
Found among NCAA Division I competitors atop the results in the 100m, James' new record for ART U emerged at 11.41 (11.405) with legal wind, placing her seventh in NCAA DII as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier once again. She claimed third of 63 overall, besting Kenondra Davis of Texas (11.410) and the next closest NCAA DII finisher was
Juvonna Cornette (11.58) who shifted to second in Academy of Art history with her 11.43 from earlier this year.
Â
Both James and Cornette would be joined by
Toni-Ann Lindsay and
Darria Matthias on a 4x100m relay that delivered its sixth Outdoor Nationals provisional mark of the season at 45.64. A busy day for James wrapped with her fourth time bettering the Outdoor Nationals provisional standard on a 23.62 performance in the 200m dash. Once again wedged in between NCAA DI talent, James placed fourth of 75 sprinters and 34 places in front of the next closest NCAA DII competitor.
Katharina Goetschl's 5000m under the lights was one to watch as the Industrial Design major clocked a new personal record 16:29.46 which ended up second in program history by less than a second. She was just shy of Jenny Bergren's top mark at 16:29.39 that coincidentally came the same day 11 years ago and put Goetschl among the top 18 in NCAA DII as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier.
The men's 4x100m relay turned its second consecutive Outdoor Nationals provisional mark with
Yacouba Gnacko,
Ajani Ince,
Shareez Hamm, and
Emmanuel Ajiroba going 40.68 across the finish line.
Ince also authored his third time under the Outdoor Nationals provisional standard in the 200m dash with a 21.10 that placed him 12 th of 43 in field of numerous NCAA DI competitors. Meanwhile,
Josh Marlin's seventh Outdoor Nationals provisional mark in the 400m hurdles put him fourth of 31 others at 51.71.
The final day of the Mt. SAC Relays comes tomorrow with the Urban Knights back at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
