Biography

2018: Appeared in 35 games starting in 33 ... hit .215 with seven RBIs, 14 runs, and three triples.

2017: In his second season as an Urban Knight, Villanueva appeared in 42 games, starting in 41 of them. Gio had a .248 batting average with one home run and 12 RBI.

2016: Villanueva performed in two capacities for the Urban Knights in 2016, both as a utility man and a relief pitcher...received eight at-bats, totaling one run batted in and two walks...made eight appearances on the mound, tossing 13.1 innings and struck out nine batters.

San Diego Christian College: Redshirted during the 2014-15 season.

Los Osos High School: Villanueva was a three-time scholar athlete at Los Osos High School and was named Offensive Player of the Year his freshman season...graduated in 2014. 

Personal: Was born July 5, 1996...is son to Robert and Rebecca and sibling to Julius and Priscilla. As a fun fact, Gio never missed a say of school from Kindergarten through 12th-grade.
