U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Players of the Week (Dec. 15)ST. LOUIS -- Senior guard
Sha'Nice Storey made even more history on Tuesday, becoming the Academy of Art University women's basketball program's first U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division II National Player of the Week recipient. The honor comes in addition to her
Pacific West Conference Player of the Week award, recognizing the season-high 30 points she scored (one off her career-high) along with her eight 3-pointers made (tying her career and the program-high) in the Urban Knights' 88-63 victory over Fresno Pacific on
Dec. 12. The award was based on games played Dec. 7-13.
Highlighted by a 6-for-8 start from long range, Storey set a program record with 20 points in the first quarter. She ended up going 10-for-18 from the field and finished 8-for-12 from distance, the second-most triples made by any NCAA Division II athlete this season. In addition to the scoring Storey did, she dished out three assists to be involved in nearly 40 percent of the baskets ART U made on Saturday.
Storey has now hit at least one 3-pointer in 10 of her 12 games this year, leads the PacWest in triples made per game (2.5), and ranks among the conference's top 10 in three-point percentage (.303). She has made the 13th most 3-pointers in all of NCAA Division II (30).
The United States Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. Today, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball.
