ART U Falls Late to SF State in Game One

OAKLAND, Calif. – It was a game of back-and-forth's for ART U (3-5) as the Urban Knights fell 3-2 to the SF State Gators (3-4).

Despite solid pitching from junior right hander Brett Bovee, ART U found themselves facing an early deficit: Joe Chedid doubled in Connor Fraser in the second who had reached when senior right fielder Cody Edmunds mishandled a fly ball to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Gators.

Academy of Art would threaten in the third and fourth innings with runners reaching in each frame, but would not pull even until redshirt junior transfer Erick Luna knocked a solo shot over the left field wall in the fifth. Luna's home run was the first of his collegiate career and the Urban Knights' first of the season.

ART U would take the lead the following inning when senior catcher Zack Trueblood singled home senior center fielder Joseph Marchini who had led off the inning with a first-pitch double to right-center.

SF State would regain the lead however, scoring runs in the seventh and eighth innings to go up 3-2.

There were a few Urban Knights who had performances that stood out amongst the others: Bovee tossed 7.0 innings while striking out six and only allowing five hits, two runs (one earned), and two walks. Junior shortstop Payton Milone was 2-for-5 while Luna went 2-for-4 with his homer in the fifth inning.

ART U will look to even the series on Saturday when they head to SF State for game two a 1 p.m.
