HAYWARD, Calif. –  After falling to Cal State East Bay in Friday night's home opener, ART U's series with the Pioneers moved to Hayward for a double header on Saturday.
Â
Game One:Â
Junior left-hander
Alexander Kuisel started the game for the Urban Knights and executed his pitches well during the first three innings, only allowing three hits. In the fourth, however, CSUEB was able to string a few hits together which set up a three-run home run from Michael Thomas, giving the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.
Â
The Knights would refuse to be subjected to a shut-down inning however: ART U loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth to give junior catcher
Zack Trueblood an opportunity to put his team on the board. The Redding native did not disappoint and served up a two-run single into left field to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
Â

That was the last hit of the game for the Urban Knights as two more pitchers finished off the remaining four innings for the Pioneers and combined for no hits, no runs, one walk and one strikeout.
Â
East Bay tacked on another run in their half of the eighth inning, giving them a 5-2 lead which would stand as the final score.
Â
Trueblood finished the game 1-for-4 with two runs batted in, but senior first baseman
Tyler Strawn also put together some good at-bats, going 2-for-3 with a double.
Â
Game Two:Â
Game two got off to a quick start as ART U's junior shortstop
Payton Milone reached first on a leadoff single and was advanced to second on redshirt junior infielder
Erick Luna's sacrifice bunt. Senior centerfielder
Joseph Marchini then singled to put runners at first and third and Milone came in to score after Strawn hit a ball to third which was mishandled.
Â
Freshman starting pitcher
Mason Verhees would struggle in his first career start however, allowing six earned runs with five walks and a wild pitch in 1.1 innings. The Pioneers excelled on offense, scoring in the second, third, and fifth innings giving CSUEB the final score of 11-1.
Â
Despite the loss, Marchini performed well at the plate, stroking two singles in three at-bats, while Milone and Trueblood each finished the game 1-for-3.
Â
The Urban Knights continue their non-conference portion of the schedule on Friday as they travel to Chico to take on Chico State in a three game series at Nettleton Stadium.
