ALAMEDA, Calif. – After splitting the first two games of the series, The Urban Knights entered Tuesday looking to keep the momentum alive after junior
Alexander Kuisel's
complete game performance the previous day.
Â
GAME ONE: HPU 14, ART U 1Â
Hawaii Pacific was off to a quick start in what would become their largest offensive output of the season. In fact, the Sharks' 14 runs were the most they have scored since plating 19 on April 19 2015 versus UH Hilo. Conversely, it was the most runs Academy of Art has allowed in just over a year, dating back to
March 27, 2015.
Â

HPU scored only single runs in the first and third innings, but their largest frame came in the fifth, scoring 10 runs on nine hits.
ART U's first real threat came in the sixth inning: junior center fielder
Cameron Jones walked on four pitches to lead off and advanced to third two batters later when senior third baseman
Tyler Strawn doubled to right center. However, Jones became stranded when the following two hitters could not bring him home.
Â
The Urban Knights did manage to avoid the shutout however, scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth. ART U loaded the bases with no outs and sophomore second baseman
Michael Maleski scored when junior shortstop
Payton Milone drove him in, reaching on a fielder's choice.
Â
GAME TWO: ART U 5, HPU 0Â
After biding his time on the bench throughout the first three games, freshman right hander
Daniel Farfan was prepared when it came to be his turn to make a difference in the series.

Â
The Soledad, Calif. native spun a gem, notching his first career win in the form of a seven-inning, complete-game shutout. Farfan allowed just three hits in the process while striking out six and walking four. This was the freshman's second consecutive strong showing as he started
game three in the previous series against Concordia, tossing 9.0 innings on five hits in a scheduled-seven-inning game.
Â
Another key to the Urban Knights' victory was the offense taking advantage of opportunities on the base paths. Although only collecting three hits in the contest, ART U was able to put five runs across in total. Furthermore, ART U hitters averaged almost six pitches per plate appearance (5.71). Going deep into the count allowed the hitters to see more pitches and better dictate the outcome of their at-bats.
Â
Academy of Art scored their first run of the game in the opening frame. Both Jones and senior left fielder
Greg Ivory reached by way of a walk and were moved over when redshirt junior second baseman
Erick Luna layed down a sacrifice bunt. Not much more offense was needed in the inning however, as Ivory came in to score on a wild pitch shortly after.
Â
The Urban Knights' largest inning of the contest came in the fourth when the offense saw three runs cross the plate. The first run scored when sophomore designated hitter
Jacoby Barragan singled through the right side to drive in Strawn, but two more followed when junior shortstop
Payton Milone hit a bunt single to third. The Sharks' third baseman threw it away however, permitting freshman catcher
Takis Thayer and senior first baseman
Brett Adami to come in to score.
Â
After splitting the four game series with Hawaii Pacific, ART U will look to carry their momentum into southern California when they take on the No. 10-ranked California Baptist Lancers. The series will be in the same format as with HPU, featuring double headers on both Friday and Saturday.
