OAKLAND, Calif. -- In their fifth meeting of the season, Academy of Art baseball fell 14-0 against Holy Names Friday night at Laney College.
With senior pitcher
Ben Kaser on the mound, the Urban Knights fell behind early in the top of the first. A fielding error brought in the Hawk's first run of the game before a double and a pair of singles gave HNU a 4-0 lead.
After giving up a single run in the second inning, a costly error in the next inning put runners in scoring position for the Hawks and by the end of the third the Urban Knights trailed 9-0. The Hawks put up three more runs in the fifth before senior pitcher
Donnie Gardiner came in to mitigate and did a decent job throwing 2.2 innings while giving up two runs and striking out four.
ART U made two more pitching changes, with junior pitcher
Jayson Summers throwing the eighth and senior pitcher
Ben Clegg handling the ninth. Both pitchers shutdown the offensive efforts of the Hawks, finishing with back to back scoreless frames while collecting a strikeout apiece. But the damage had been dealt and the deficit was too great to make up and ART U took a 14-0 loss.
Academy of Art will look to bounce back with a doubleheader against the Hawks tomorrow starting at noon at Laney College in Oakland, California.
