KNIGHT WATCH
ART U currently sits in 11th in the PacWest after an 0-3 week, but is only 2.5 games out of sixth place where there is a tie between UH Hilo and HPU. Junior forward
Josh Hill notched his third double-double of the season to begin the week against Point Loma,
his second in as many games, dropping a season-high 19 points with 11 rebounds. However, it was not enough, as
PLNU would walk away victorious, 81-62. Hill followed up that game with another stellar contest,
scoring 18 points to go with seven rebounds, but again it was
Dominican taking the PacWest win, 73-64. On a Sunday afternoon affair to close out the week, junior guard
Monte Lambert finished with a season-best and game-high 22 points while junior guard
Stefan Milivojevic chipped in 17, but
HPU barely outlasted ART U to steal a game on the road, 66-63.Â
Â
Reaching double-figures in all three games was Milivojevic, who paces the team in scoring with an average of 16.6 points per game,
ranking him fifth in the PacWest. Milivojevic's 54.3 percent shooting from the field also makes him fifth in the conference, while his 48 percent shooting from beyond the arc is first and his average of 2.7 three-pointers per game ranks second. On the boards, Hill sits in 11th in the PacWest with an average of 5.9 per game, and junior guard
Joshua Bagley is seventh with an average of 3.2 assists per game. Â
DUELING WITH THE SILVERSWORDS
Currently third in the PacWest, Chaminade comes into the matchup having won four-straight and five of their last six. Most recently it was a 30-point win for the Silverswords, as they took down Holy Names 110-80, and just before that was a 92-74 victory over HPU. Over the course of the four-game winning streak, CUH is averaging 92 points per game, while only allowing 69.3 points per game on the defensive end. For the season as a whole, Chaminade is the top-scoring team in the PacWest at 83.9 points per game, and has the second-best scoring margin at +11.4. Tyler Cartaino leads the way for the Silverswords, as the top scorer in the conference is averaging 21.1 points per game on 55.7 percent shooting from the floor. Kendall Small is the leading rebounder with 6.4 per game, and also averages the most assists with 4.8 per game. It is Chaminade ahead in the all-time matchup, as they lead the series with ART U, 17-3. The Silverswords will host Concordia on Jan. 25 before facing the Urban Knights.Â
Â
SHARK ATTACK
Though tied with UH Hilo for the sixth spot in the PacWest, Hawai'i Pacific is currently seventh in the conference due to winning percentage. HPU has won four of its past five matchups, with the loss coming to Chaminade on Jan. 16. The two most recent wins came in the first matchup of the year with the Urban Knights, where HPU squeaked out the 66-63 victory, and the Sharks followed that up with a 82-76 victory in Fresno over FPU in overtime. While HPU has just the 10th best scoring offense, they own the second-best defensive effort, holding teams to an average of just 70.6 points per game. Ronald Blain is the top offensive threat, something ART U has seen firsthand when he dropped 21 points in their most recent contest. Blain is averaging 15.5 points per game for the season, seventh best in the PacWest. His 6.4 rebounds per game is eighth in conference, while David Rowlands averages 3.0 assists per game. Hawai'i Pacific is out in front of the all-time matchup with ART U 14-4, and will host Holy Names and Concordia before ART U arrives.Â
Â
VULCAN-IC ERUPTION
Currently sitting in the final spot for the PacWest tournament is the sixth place UH Hilo Vulcans, averaging 70.8 points per game. A winner their last time out, the Vulcans had lost two of the past three, but have won four of the past six. It was a three-game winning streak over Biola, Dominican, and Notre Dame de Namur prior to the two-game skid against APU and FPU. Most recently the Vulcans took down Concordia 71-61 on Jan. 23, and will host Holy Names on Jan. 27 prior to seeing the Urban Knights. Averaging 19 points per game is Kupaa Harrison, a figure that ranks him second in the PacWest, while his teammate Sasa Vuksanovic ranks 12th at 14.3 points per game. Harrison is also the team's leading rebounder with 6.9 per game, while Vuksanovic averages 2.8 assists per game. The all-time series between ART U and UH Hilo is nearly even, with the Vulcans taking the slight edge, 8-7.Â
LOOKING AHEAD
Home cooking will await the Urban Knights when they return from Hawai'i, as they will host four-straight PacWest contests beginning with Fresno Pacific on Feb. 6 for Campus Safety Night at Kezar Pavilion. Â
