Dominican Tops ART U To Take Season Series

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Academy of Art men's basketball team had the better shooting percentage in its Pacific West conference matchup against Dominican, but faded down the stretch as the Penguins picked up the win, 73-64.

ART U (5-12, 3-7 PacWest) got off to a hot start in the game, scoring on three out of its first four possessions. After trading buckets, an 8-0 run for the Urban Knights extended their lead to 16-6 thanks in part to junior forward Josh Hill who scored eight points within six minutes. Dominican (3-13, 3-7 PacWest) would counter with a 9-0 run to erase the deficit and eventually take the lead, which the Penguins would battle to keep all the way up to halftime, 43-37. Hill would finish the first half shooting 7-for-7 from the floor for 14 points.

Both teams started the second frame slow before the Urban Knights got the scoring going with a layup from junior guard Stefan Milivojevic. The lead would stay within striking distance, but after shooting 69.6 percent from the field in the first frame, ART U's hot hand would cool off as they hit only 47.8 percent from the field. The lead for Dominican would reach 11 points, but the final score was only a nine-point difference, 73-64.

Hill nearly finished perfect from the field, pouring in a game-high 18 points on 9-for-10 shooting and snatching seven rebounds. Also in double-digits was Milivojevic with 14 points, while Milivojevic and senior guard Victor Ruiz de Carranza had four assists apiece.

Four Penguins scored at least 10 points, led by Jordan Williams with 18 points and two steals. Sam Averbuck chipped in 15 points, and Thomas Faustka nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

On deck for the Urban Knights is Hawai'i Pacific, as the two teams will go head-to-head on Sunday beginning at 3:30 p.m. from Kezar Pavilion.
