KNIGHT WATCH
Danielle Medellin 10-21-22The 1-1 week for Academy of Art was highlighted by a 3-0 shutout victory over Lincoln University on Oct. 12 where senior forward Baylie Christensen became the 12th Urban Knight in program history to net a brace when she scored the first two goals of the match. Goal No. 1 of the season from Christensen came in the 41st minute, as she finished off a low cross from freshman midfielder Danielle Medellin after Medellin had worked her way through the attacking area up the right side of the pitch. It was déjà vu to start the second frame, as Medellin sent a cross through the air to the waiting Christensen, who used her head to send the ball past the Lincoln goalkeeper. ART U added one more tally for good measure from the boot of freshman midfielder Natalia Cruz when she scored her first Academy of Art goal in the 81st minute, all started by senior defender Britney Flint playing a ball forward to redshirt sophomore forward Hannah Moore to set up an attacking opportunity up the right side of the pitch. Moore then sent a cross into the middle, finding Cruz for the day's final marker.

Scoring her second goal of the season in the 2-1 defeat against Holy Names was redshirt sophomore forward Hannah Moore, as she was the recipient of a pass to the top of the box by sophomore defender Halldóra Einarsdóttir after Einarsdóttir generated a defensive take away from my goal kick. Moore's strike into the top of the net joins her unassisted tally back in the match with UC Santa Cruz as the first two markers of her ART U career, ties her for for the team lead in goals along with Christensen, and also gave Einarsdóttir the first point in her collegiate career.

Freshman goalkeeper Alicia Calderon has stood out in goal for ART U this season, as the Long Beach, Calif. native recently posted one of the best matches of her career where she made 15 total saves against Azusa Pacific. Not only was that mark a new season best, but it ranks as second-most in ART U single-game history, trailing only the 19 by Rachael Rempe against Notre Dame de Namur on Oct. 26, 2012. Additionally, it was the most saves in a single game by a PacWest goalkeeper this season, as she holds the top three spots of that list and is the only goalkeeper in the PacWest to make double-digit saves in a match (three times). For the campaign Calderon now has a total of 102 saves across 1,260 minutes played, which is already the third-most in a single ART U season. Her streak of making at least five saves per game recently came to an end, as she had done so in each of her first 13 collegiate matches. Among the conference leaders, Calderon sits atop the PacWest in saves per game with a mark of 7.29.

HUNTING THE HAWKS
After winning four of their first five matches, Holy Names finds itself in a tough skid having lost each of their past four times out on the pitch, all coming in PacWest action while scoring just two goals in that span. The HNU offense ranks near the bottom of the PacWest table in offense, sitting ninth in goals scored (14), scoring average (1.08), and scoring margin (-0.54). With a total of 111 shots on the season (also ninth in the conference), the Hawks generate an average of 7.8 shots per game, but only put 47.3 percent of their attempts on goal (44 total). The six goals from Zinet Siddiqi are just one shy of the conference lead, and have her in front of the team in points at 13 (tied for seventh in PacWest) when combined with her one assist. Alexis Aguilar is expected to start in goal, as she has a 5-7-0 record with 41 saves and a 1.48 goals against average. While the Hawks won the earlier meeting this season by a 2-1 margin on Sept. 21, putting an end to the ART U's previous four-match winning streak over HNU, it's the Urban Knights who still lead in the all-time series, 8-5-1.

FIGHTIN' FRESNO
Also on a short two-game slide is Fresno Pacific, as they have dropped their previous two contests in PacWest action against UH Hilo and Chaminade on the Hawaiian islands. However, they still boast one of the top offenses in the conference, as they've scored the fourth-most goals (21) while putting up the fifth-best scoring average (1.62). Offensive pressure is among FPU's strengths, as they have generated the third-most shots in the PacWest (182), though they only put 41.2 percent of their looks on target (75 total). Tori de Leon is tied for the PacWest lead in goals (seven) while ranking second in points (16) by just one thanks to a pair of assists. Expected to be between the posts is Monique Nevarez, accumulating a 6-5-2 record and a goals against average of 1.36 to go along with 34 saves on 138 shots faced. Capturing the victory in the first meeting between ART U and FPU earlier this season was the Sunbirds, helping Fresno Pacific further increase its lead in the all-time series 11-1-1.

PENGUINS TAKE FIRST LEG OF CLÁSICO CUP FROM KNIGHTS 3-0
After the first 45 minutes of the Pacific West Conference battle between Academy of Art women's soccer and Dominican went by without either team scoring a goal, DU struck three times in the second half as the Penguins claimed victory in the first leg of the inaugural Bay Area Clásico Cup by a 3-0 final on Sunday.

LOOKING AHEAD
The final two matches of the year have come for Academy of Art, as the Urban Knights will close the campaign with a two-match homestand against Point Loma and Concordia on Nov. 3 and 5.
