KNIGHT WATCH
Thus far in the early season, Academy of Art has dropped a pair of 6-0 decisions against Chico State and Sonoma State, and in between those matches a 3-1 loss to UC Santa Cruz. Tallying the only goal in the season for ART U thus far is redshirt sophomore forward
Hannah Moore, doing so in unassisted fashion when she was able to get her foot on a clearance attempt from the UC Santa Cruz goalkeeper, with the ball resulting in the net to give the Knights its first lead on the scoreboard this campaign.
Between the pipes, freshman goalkeeper
Alicia Calderon has produced a total of 21 saves on 89 shots faced so far this season, making at least five saves in all three matches. Her best performance came in the season opener against Chico State when she made nine stops, while most recently she denied seven attempts against Sonoma State.
OTTER WATER
Cal State Monterey Bay earned their first victory of the season last time on the pitch against fellow Pacific West Conference member Dominican by a 1-0 final, as they enter the matchup with ART U at 1-1-1. The win overcame a season-opening scoreless draw against Biola, as well as the subsequent defeat at the hands of Stanislaus State, 2-1. On a per game basis the Otters average 14.7 shots per game, but only 13 of their 44 total shots have made it on goal (.295) leading to only two goals on the year. Accounting for one of the goals is Tiger Rendon while the other belongs to Nayeli Sandoval Gallo to lead the team in points with two apiece, while assisting on their goals was Ariana Palomo and Catalina Villegas. It's the Otters out in front of the Knights in the all-time series between the two teams 3-1-1, with their most recent matchup
ending in a double overtime scoreless draw on Sept. 10, 2021.
SEAWOLVES SPOIL 2022 HOME OPENER FOR URBAN KNIGHTS
Making its first appearance at the friendly confines of Paul Goode Field, Academy of Art women's soccer ran into a tough Sonoma State squad as SSU produced a trio of goals in each half to take a 6-0 non-conference win on Tuesday.
LOOKING AHEAD
ART U will play host in this year's version of the battle for San Francisco, as the Urban Knights will take on the SF State Gators for their only match of the week on Sunday, Sept. 11 beginning at noon.
